Question 1966 Mustang Comet 8" Rear End Install. Drum Brake Question.

I recently acquired a Comet Rear end to replace the 7" rear in my '66. I am in the process of rebuilding the brakes, and I noticed that the drums themselves are a strange shape. It looks like the distance from that backplate to the face of the axle is large enough to accomodate up to a 2.5" drum, but instead it has 1.75" drums. What I am wondering is, is it possible to swap a pair 2.5" drums and pads onto my current plates? Has anyone done this?

I lack a camera at the moment, but my drums look similar to the ones in this ebay listing.

Thanks.

Hmm, the point was to attempt to install larger pads and drums onto my current backing plates.

Can anyone measure their drums and pads? What I need is the narrowest distance from the edge of the pad to the center ridge of a 2.5" pad. Also, I'm looking for the depth from the rim of the drum to the back of the lug holes, and the diameter of the center hub.

Thanks.
