On lighter colored cars the lower pinch weld under the rocker panel was supposed to be blacked out for better appearance. Ford used the same paint they used in the engine compartment, a semi-gloss black. I say supposed since the painter at the factory didn't always follow this. Some light colored cars weren't blacked out. I guess it depended on the painters mood and if they were running low on paint and waiting for someone to bring more over. With the cars constantly moving down the line they may have run out of time and just concentrated on getting the engine compartments painted. Who knows, but there are some light colored cars that didn't get this for some reason.
My San Jose January built 68 coupe with Acapulco Blue paint has the black out under the rockers. The black out treatment starts on the flat surface that faces down between the pinch weld seam and the visible surface of the rocker panel.
