Question Ok to cut 1968 Mustang front springs?

Hi all. I havent been on this site in awhile, but I have a question. I have a '68 Coupe & just put in a 390, 4 speed. The old springs wer'nt cutting it, so I bought a set of big block springs. I got the heavy duty ones. I have a problem though. Its been over a month & the springs havent settled much. Theres probably a 4-5 inch gap between the tires & wheel well. It looks really bad. Other than buying different springs, can I cut these? I heard it is bad for the suspension...just looking for advice/suggestions. Thanks!

It is perfectly ok to cut your springs. Under normal circumstances I would say NO if you are going to have a big block, but since you already have the big block springs then that puts you out of harm's way.

I cut them on both of my cars and they look and feel fine. Several others on this site have done the same thing. Start off first with little bites 1 1/2 coils off the top. Check the stance between each cutting. It's a lot of trouble do it that way but you'll get the look you want. I wouldn't go over 4 coils though.

Also some overload springs in the back leafs will lift the back up a little if you want to go that route but you will sacrifice some comfort.

I have a 67 with a 289. I uprgraded the susppension with one of the steering and suspension kits, found in most mustang parts catalogs.

My car also looked like a 4X4. I cut out a coil and a half and have had no problems. The stance looks much better, and i really havent noticed that much difference in ride.

geez wish I had that problem, my car had a big block and somone replaced with a 302 and cut the heck out of the springs, my stroked windor with the milodon 7 qt pan nearly drags. just got new springs for the 428 to replace the 390 that was gone, I want the wheels to look good too, but recommend you check the oil pan, seems like a bad thing if that is the low point , damn speed bumps.

My only problem is the headers. They were custom made, and they sit really low. I was thinking about heating them up, putting a jack under the collector & jack the heck out of it, but im afraid lol. I would lower the fender to the tires, but the headers would scrape the ground. So Im only gonna lower it to stock.

Ah well...but thanks guys. I have duty this weekend, so I wont be able to do it. Next week I'll get crackin though.
