Default 1965 ford Mustang Speaker choices speakers in the kick pannel or on the package shelf

i bought a set of 6x9 for the rear deck of my 65 coup from Johns mustang. I just bought a new package shelf and was thinking do I really wanna get in the trunk and cut it
As I looked I noticed that I can get kick panal speakers. My question is will klick panal speakers and a dual voice speaker in front give me the sound that i want

H E L P please

It depends on the sound that you want. Youre probably used to the awesome sound that comes in factory cars these days, which tend to have at least 6 speakers. I am new to the classic world, so i am not completely familiar with my mustang's interior yet, but i already assumed there would be some customization involved with stereo component placement. But if you can manage to get two speakers in the rear, and two in the front, you should be good in my opinion.

This is what my daughter and I decided on for her 66 (but interior and wiring are not done yet so I cannot confirm whether the sound is as good as I hope it will be). 6.5 inch component system speakers for the front with the speakers in the kick panel and the tweeters mounted in the center of the dash under the grate (where the original 4x10 speaker would go). 6.5 inch speakers on the rear package shelf, and subwoofer in the trunk. My only concern right now is that the left and right tweeters will be so close together and will be in the center of the dash instead of spread apart farther.

Infinity,
The front speakers will probably be lacking. The way the speakers face will not serve as optimal configuration based on where you are sitting. They actually tend to cancel out each other. They are a good fill to rear speakers which will give you a much better sound reproduction. You can use your new package tray as a template if you are worried about mauling it and grab some masonite board from a local hardware store and then finish to your liking, I/e with vinyl, carpet,or paint. you could also add a small amplifier to assist in boosting the sound. Hope this helps!

I sensed that infinity, that why I suggested using masonite board. It is what we use in high end vehicles where the owners want the ability to go back to stock

The package tray you got from John's Mustang is nothing more than 5/16" masonite in the first place. So, either go to the lumber yard and get some masonite, or use the one from John's to cut your new holes from a template. My 65 only has one 6X9k hole in the package tray, so what I did was to mount the 6X9's from underneath the other two holes. Like as has been said, don't expect a modern Mach1 sound system sound, but the sub woofers in the trunk will help.

Most people compain about the sound they get from their kick panels and prefer the 5x7's or 6x9's in the back. Those speakers create a much stronger sound and deliver more range, especially on the lows. Whether or not you want to cut metal is your personal preference but I already had the holes in my '67. If you don't want to cut the metal then they sell ABS plastic package trays at one of the vendors (I think it's NPD) which have the speaker holes lifted. If you do want to cut the metal there's not a whole lot to making the package tray itself. I'm 16 and I made this when I was 15. It was easy and I think it looks a lot better than the masonite or plastic.

Default package tray

I am not a big fan of the padded look on the package tray. The masonite that is painted looks a lot cleaner IMO. That masonite really sucks up the paint though. Just be sure you put down a thick coat of primer first, and remember the rough side goes up.
