A 400 horse 351 is not difficult. Good heads, intake and a moderate cam will provide 400 HP. Edelbrock has one in panel truck. They put on Performer RPM 2.02 heads, Performer RPM cam and intake, and a 750 Edelbrock carb. The engine dyno'd at 409 HP.

If you have a manual trans make sure the 80 block has the boss and machining for the clutch pivot. Ford changed to hydraulic clutches at a some point, eliminated the pivot from 351 block.

As you stand facing the front of the block you need to look on the right hand side, below the last cylinder. You should see a threaded hole where the clutch pivot mounts into the side of the block. I don't believe that Ford quit using this pivot until 82 or there abouts so your block should have it. Of course I have been wrong before though. Hope this helps.

You can hit 400hp no problem with a good set of heads, 10.5:1, a good cam, PerfromerRPM intake, and headers. I'm not the worlds biggest fan of Edelbrock's heads, but IMO their cam is a piece of $h!t compared to what you can get today in the 21st century.

I'd put on a set of trickflows or AFR165s, 10.5:1 compression, and a Lunati 61003 cam. Use low tension rings and a crank scraper for a "free" 20hp and a good set of headers and I'd figure on 470hp. We were going to build a 351W like that for my buddy's F250 before he got a 460, and from what I could find, people were getting almost 480hp out of a motor like that.
