1967 Mustang Lights Are Going On And Off On Their Own, Any Suggestions?
ok heres whats going on i have a 67 mustang an i didnt like how dim the lights are so i went out an got after market 7" headlight shells that can take new lights (SILVERSTAR lights) the really bright ones you see most new cars with...
so i hook it all up and now my head lights go on an off about every 30 seconds i think it might be somthing over heating???? i know the fuse can take it cause it never blew out !!!

whats the deal?????
Sounds like a self resetting breaker or a relay.
Was there a breaker in the system that you installed?

The breaker is in the switch. Those lights are too much for it, and probably even too much for a new switch.
What you want to do, is use the switch to trip the primary circuit on a relay, allowing the secondary circuit of that relay to power the lights. That way, you can take 12V+ straight from the battery, or the solenoid, and use heavy gauge wire. This pulls even less juice through the dash switch than with the stock bulbs, and you might not have to replace the switch.
The relay mod also works with stock bulbs, and will often make them brighter.

well i guess i could try that but i know its gonna be way easy to say and a pain in the ass to do
Nah, just mount your relay under the hood and run the existing headlight wires to the primary circuit. Then get some heavier wire, and run it from the battery, through the secondary circuit of the relay, and to the lights.

I think the relay should sort it just make sure you use a good relay thats rated higher than your current draw, use heavy guage wire so there's less voltage loss and dont forget to use a fuse in the wire from the battery
