Default 1966 Mustang Considering Vintage Rebuilt Autolite 4100 Carb And Intake, Suggestions?

I have 1966 289 auto coupe. Im considering vintage rebuilt Autolite 4100 carb and intake. "Pony carbs" claim better than original. Whole setup 860.00. Any suggestions?

Hey D, I found this information on the Autolite 4100 at Mustang&Fords.com: Hope you find it helpful.

When we think about carburetion for a bitchin’ restomod, thoughts turn to Holley, Edelbrock, and Carter performance carburetors. But did you know the Autolite 4100 four-barrel carburetor from Pony Carburetors outperforms these carburetors in nearly every arena? The 4100 is a fiercely reliable carburetor that needs virtually no maintenance throughout its service life.
When Ford engineers went to the drawing board approaching 50 years ago to design the 2100 two-barrel and 4100 four-barrel Autolite carburetors, they over-engineered them in every respect. Fuel leakage is virtually impossible, because these carburetors are one solid casting with integral fuel bowls. The accelerator pump is fully adjustable. Remove the air horn and adjust the floats even with the engine running. Choke adjustment is a cakewalk. The greatest advantage behind the 2100 and 4100 is simplicity.

There ya go !

No problem D. I came across that article yesterday when I was researching engine detailing. I think the Autolite is a GREAT choice. In the long run you'll be happier with it I think. Let me know how it turns out.

Make sure you get the correct 4100 to suit your needs. I believe they came in three different CFM ratings. Other than that a great carb. the only carb that comes close to the 4100 is the much misunderstood Holley 4010 series.

Both of these carbs had annular boosters and even look very similar. Holley unfortunately discontinued the 4010 several years ago. I am running one and have very good performance from it.

You can't go wrong with a 4100. Never heard of any problems with them, except for the scarcity and cost. Wish you luck,---Chuck

Hey greek,

i'm running a 4010 also. What spacer plate do you recommend for a stock 4bbl intake?

The plate I have now is too short on the front and back and it's sucking too much air.

I need a spacer that will fit!!

notice its talking about 50 years ago and not the current autolite carbs. That means you should have the original or find a original one and not a modern autolite carb

fastbck65, I'm using the insulator plate with the 4 plastic inserts that comes with the Holley rebuild kits. It's a four hole spacer and the inserts keep the base plate from distorting if over torqued. Use the factory torque specs for bolting down the carb. If you are using this spacer and still have a leak, install the thin base plate gaskets above and below the spacer. Four hole on top and the single opening type on the bottom. ---Chuck
