Default 1966 Mustang Coupe - Automatic Shift lever labeling

Hi all!
Well, I've finally got my '66 drivable. But, I'm a little confused by the labeling on the automatic shift lever. It goes (front to back) P, R, N, dot, circle, L. What's with the dot and the circle? Which one is the good ol' "drive" position?

Sorry to have to ask silly things. The car is older than I am, so I'll just blame "youth".

Thanks!
Bryan

This confusing set up was revised for the 67 model which went to the P-R-N-D-2-1 pattern. On your car the solid dot is the Drive position, circle is the position where the car starts out in second gear eliminating first gear. The idea was that if you were driving in slippery conditions wet/icy roads, you could avoid wheel spin by starting out in second gear.

Solid dot = Drive
Circle= 2nd to 3rd

All the best,---Chuck
