First Question is of course: WILL IT FIT?
I have read that it is challenging, and some special mounts and headers are required. Does anyone know where i can get this info?
I have a chance to purchase a 10.5:1 freshly rebuilt, all forged, machined block and heads 351C for about 1900 Bucks, and it seems like a pretty hot deal to me.
I do not know much about the 351 motors, let alone the Cleveland.
The block has been bored .30 over, which makes me nervous as i understand the Cleveland is notorious for thin walls.
If anyone can point me toward some info on cramming a 351C into 1965 mustang, or some general info 351C performance, i would appreciate it!

it will. I have a 351W on my 65 and its stroked to a 383
Well i know the windsor will fit, but the Cleveland is actually a different block from the windsor, and does have different dimensions from what i understand.

Yeah, the heads are a lot bigger than the W. It will fit because there are a lot of guys with 65-66 Mustangs with Clevo's in them. The problem comes when it's time to change the spark plugs, and as you mentioned using long tube headers.
Hello. The Cleveland will fit, sort of.You will encounter two problems. When you close the hood it will hit the breather assembly if you use the one of the stock breathers, and it will look like the exhaust manifold on the driver's side is barely clearing, but the first time that you hit a little bump in the road, the steering gear box will crack the exhaust manifold. If you are aware of these things it isn't really a big deal to work out a way around them, but you need to be aware of them.Hope that helps.
could that problem be avoided by going with a rack and pinion setup? i was planning on switching to rack anyway, and with the money i could save by picking up this motor, i would be able to afford it.

Hi again. That would certainly eliminate one of the problems. The one about the hood hitting the breather is usually solved in one of two ways.Either a custom breather that doesn't stick up much and pulls the air through the top or custom motor mounts that have the motor sitting a little lower. To do that you also have to modify the tranny mount so that it also sits a little lower. None of that is a big deal, but it does need to be addressed to make the set-up work.Hope that helps.
Thanks for all the help Veronica! These all seem like issues that i can definately handle! I'm probably going to buy this motor soon! WOoooOO! My car is UNDER WAY!

Headers will clear the stock steering box just fine, its the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds that veronica is talking about. A drop-base aircleaner from speedway motors or summit will solve the hood issues as long as the intake isn't waay too tall. Crazy,
I googled "will a 351 fit in a 1965 Mustang" and found this site. I just purchased a complete, in the crate 351W for 1300 and am in the process of finding an early Pony to cram it in. I am liikong at a 65' Fastback this weekend. If that pans out I will definitely be dropping in for advice. Good luck with your project Systronic.
ya but with a 460 you have to get the mustang II suspension (so that it clears) which is another 2000 dollars. 460 is super heavy too. im gonna go 351cleveland
