I am planning to do the same for my 66. The AOD I purchase was from 86 mercury. Here is a link to a site on the web.

Default c4 swap to manual

The C4 to the T-5 swap is pretty straight forwared. There is too much information to post it in this thread, so I will just offer you a tech article that should help you make the swap.

Where are you looking, cuz I didn't have a problem finding them.

Summit has the lokar kickdown and TV cables, NPD has a crossmember, a guy by the name of Jim Williamson sells the parts to hook it to the stock shifter, and the rest is available from autozone (c4 speedo cable and c4 mount). The stock c4 yoke works if you cut it down, chopping off the un-splined part. Volia!

Edit: what motor? you might need a new flywheel

Just have the yoke cut down 1" instead; it's a whole lot cheaper than $90 to have a driveshaft shortened and re-balanced. Any machine shop, automotive or not, could toss it on the lathe and take of 1" in no time.

As for the flywheel, if it's a pre-1978 302, it'll be 28oz balance, in which case you need a 1985 F150 351W/AOD flywheel ($48 at AutoZone). 1978-1981 is a crapshoot between 28oz and 50oz balance, but '82 and newer are definitely 50oz and you can use a 5.0/AOD Mustang flywheel ($48 at AutoZone).

Another thing I don't think was mentioned; you'll see those "automatic transmission" adapter brackets for holleys and edelbrock, total scam.

As far as I can tell, the ones for the AOD are completely different. Put those on ebay for what you paid for em, I'm sure you can get your money out of them You'll have to make your own for the AOD but its an easy job with a length of brake line and about 6" of ATF-rated rubber hose.

Like I said before, maybe, maybe not. Find out what year the motor is and you'll know for sure. If you use the wrong one, believe me, you'll know. Just about rattle your teeth out.

First trick is to see if the crank pulley has 3 or 4 bolts, they went 4-bolt in 1970. Next is to yank the starter and check the block casting number and date code thats stamped right above the starter. Second trick is pretty much guaranteed. If you really really wanna make sure, pull the oil pan and look at the stamping on the crank throws, it should be 1M for a 302 crank and 2M for a 5.0 crank (I think)
