Default 1969 Mustang power to manual steering

I gave up on my leaky power steering and bought the power to manual adapter. I've removed everything but the power steering pump which operates as the tension on the belt that runs the water pump. How would I go about running the water pump by belt without the power steering pump in place?

Very funny. How do I install it without an adjustable tensioning point?

When I was running power steering on my 67, I had separate belts to run the P/S and the alternator. I had a double grooved pulley on the crankshaft and on the water pump. Did you have one belt driving everything? Why can't you drive the waterpump using the crank pully and the alternator pulley driven with it. Your belt adjustment, of course is done using the alternator adjustment?

Another thing about changing to manual steering is that you have to change the idler arm. The lower bushing is different on the idler arm for manual steering in that it has a center sleeve that rotates easily, where the power steering center sleeve is mounted rigidly in the rubber part of the lower bushing. The rigid mounting is to make the steering recenter itself using the return tension of the slightly twisted rubber in the bushing. The manual will recenter itself if the alignment is correct. ---Chuck

P.S. I used to live in St. Pete when I was a kid. I still love it down there. Used to go to Sunshine Speedway, a very nice track.

I considered that because I do have the double grooved pully on the crank and waterpump, however the alternator does not line up with the other groove. Is there an adjustment to move the alternator back half an inch or so?

Its great down here. Sunshine Speedway is still there, although I don't know for how much longer with all the development going up around it. Its been a long time since I was to Sunshine Speedway myself. The last time I went there was still oval racing, now they only have drag racing.
