Default 73 H code and a 73 q code

Hello to all my Stang informants

I have a 73 H code mustang. I have been reading article after article and the only difference I can see between an H code and a Q code(cobra Jet) is the carb.

My question is this if I change my carb without any other changes will that increase my horsepower? I was under the influence that I had to change my car, manifold, cam, headers and exhaust.

Default 351 confusion

This used to be a common question. What's really confusing is HOW MANY different 351's Fords came with in those years.

There were 2 different Windsor motors (both of which were 2 barrel carb motors), with the difference being that one had larger valves than the other.

There were also 2 different Cleveland motors, with one a 2 barrel version (with valves larger than either Widsor motor), and the more rare 4 barrel version (with even larger valves).

Both 351's could also interchange many parts with the larger M400 motors (swapping in the rods and cranks from these motors made a 400 out of the 351).

So yes, there were differences other than just the carburetor.

How MUCh difference depends on which 351 you start with.

Since there were a LOT of the 351 4 barrel clevelands made, its even possible you have a Cleveland motor with a swap to a 2 bbl carb (which was frequently done to save gas during the gas crisis of the 70's).

I've got to go, but I'll pop back in with more data later.

There were more than 2 different Clevelands. They consist of 2 basic variations, the 2bbl and the 4bbl. The 2bbl has different heads with smaller valves and ports, lower compression, 2bbl carb and intake and a smaller cam.

There was the standard 4bbl 351C, the BOSS 351, Q-Code 351CJ, R-Code 351CJ.

Thanks for the info,

I looked at my book again and the compression is identicle. Both engins are clevelands. I don't know if this helps you but I just wanted to put it out there.

He has a 73 model, so I focused on the actual 351 offerings for Mustangs in 73.

If he has an earlier (or later) model motor swapped in there, let's see, there are...

maybe a dozen - at least a dozen - different versions. More.
