D 277 is the assembly-line sequence number. M is the exterior paint code which is listed as white. 2A is the interior trim code listed as black vinyl. I'm not sure what the number "1" indicates. My guess is that it relates to the assembly-line sequencing also. This tag is called the body "buck" tag. ---Chuck

D = dealer order

277 = factory rotation number (assembly line sequence as mentioned before)

1 = welding bay

H19 = date buck tag was created (bucked), car was most likely built a day or two later, August 19th

65A = standard interior coupe (as mentioned before)

M = exterior color (again, as mentioned)

2A = standard black interior (as mentioned)

If the car had any major options from the factory they would be in code under the "65A M 2A" line of the tag. For example you may find "PS" for power steering, "PB" for power brakes, "LP" for stereo speakers, "DE" for dual exhaust or "Vinyl" for a vinyl top.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.
