Default 1968 mustang motor mounts.

I restored a 1968 mustang fastback with a j-code 302,and factory air. my problem is i think i have the wrong motor mounts because my fan blade won'tclear my fan shroud? Is there special mounts for this car?and if so where can Iget them or a part number? The fan,and shroud are correct, maybe there is another problem.I did put on new mounts when I restored the car.

There was a little known fact that the 1967 motor mounts were a unique part for that year only. The mounts and the mount brackets that bolt to the frame are different by about 1/4 in. There may be a possibility that somewhere through the years, the 67 mount brackets or motor mounts are on your car.

You can look up motor mounts in just about all the catalogs and they will say that 67 and 68 mounts and brackets are the same. I had this problem when I was installing my engine in my 67. The new motor mounts I bought were too short by 1/4 in. and the bolt that goes through the mount and bracket wouldn't fit. I spent hours trying to pry the mounts down to get the bolt in. I finally succeeded but the mount on one side separated in no time causing the engine to jump out of position upon acceleration. My cure was to install the 68 set up in my 67 so the mounts would work.

I found out about the difference in Mustang Monthly a few years back. Everything will bolt into place that's why I couldn't figure out what the problem was. Even placing the mounts side by side and looking at them it's hard to tell the difference until I measured them. If you still have the old mounts you may want to compare them. Why Ford did this for only one year is anybody's guess. I hope this helps. ---Chuck

The 1967 only motor mount with the different dimensions that I mentioned is Ford part number: D0ZZ-6038-B . This may or may not still be available from Ford. I did locate this P/N mount in the John's Mustang Parts catalog 1-(800)869-6894, www.johnsmustang.com ---Chuck
