Default idle problems

I own a '69 mustang with a 302 engine. I upgraded my carburetor to a 4 barrel edelbrock(#1406). I am trying to adjust the idle speed but am having problems with my RPM's. The RPM's won't stabilize out and jump around between a 30 RPM band. I am not sure why or how to correct this problem (or even if it is all that much of a problem). Any thought to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like your using a digital rpm meter to set your idle, are you? Yes it's normal to see that kind of unstability in an idle. Even fuel injected engines don't idle perfectly smooth... Frank.

I am using a diditial RPM meter. I hope your right about the inability for the RPM to stabilize out. Is there a better way to read my RPM's?

Actually you are using the best way possible. The old analoge sweep needle meter is also good but sometimes hard to read the scale. Idle speeds never stay rock steady no matter what car/engine you have. It always wavers abit.
Frank....
