Default 1989 Ford Bronco Rear end will it fit?

We have a bad 68 rear end with 4 lug, does anyone know if an 89 9" ford Bronco rear end would work? We figured since we have to swap out the rear end, we may as well just do the 5 lug conversion at the same time. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello. You would be better off with the 8.8 out of an 89 Ranger/ Bronco II The overall length is the same as a Mustang, while the full sized Bronco's is a bit longer. The Bronco II rear end you just move the spring perches out an inch on each side and get a flip kit, since the springs go across the top on the BroncoII. Hope that helps, and welcome.

Okay, well, I guess that won't work after all then. We just got back home, we found a 9" rear end out of a 68 mustang, the guy we bought it from had several mustang projects he was working on, and promised that this would work. Let's keep our fingers crossed. My husband is out there doing the work now. Wish him luck.

Hi again. That will work much better, especially if your car is an automatic. In 68 the 6cyl cars that came with an automatic use the same rear U-joints as the V-8 cars. I'm not sure if the drive shaft length will be a problem or not, but I don't think so. Tell him to be careful. Come to think of it, you might want to go check on him occassionaly to make sure he's not pinned underneath that thing. Those things are heavy. Obviously, I don't know anything about your husband, but I do know mine. Sometimes he'll get into something that's a little bit more than he can do by himself and, being far too 'manly' to ask anyone for some help, ends up limping or something.

Good luck hubby. He is probably going to need a different driveshaft though. Let's hope he doesn't. That 68 he got is the same length axle for both the 7.5 6 banger rear and the 8 or 9" for the 68. So that should not be a factor. Tell him good luck from your classic Mustang buddies.
