Default Question about '72 Vega

Hey guys. First off, i apologize in advance for posting a question about chevys on a ford forum. But i trust y'all, and i had a hard time finding a reputable looking chevy site. that being sayed, i have a new project in mind. I want to build a street legal drag car. complete with Roll cage, Drag slicks, Brake lights and turn signals. i want the fastest street car in my small town of montana. Ok, there is a 1972 chevy vaga, for sale in town and i am going to take a look at it this weekend, it has a inline 4 right now, and i want to know if it would be hard to fit a V8 in it. and also if you guys could tell me anything that you know/heard about these cars. thanks a lot guys.

But what would REALLY get their goat is if you made it Ford powered! Now that would be High-Larry-Us. Get 'em back for the countless old Ford street rods with damn Chevy 350s in em.

On another personal note. I like the idea of a V8 in a little car like that. I had a friend in high school who's dad had an old early 80s Chrysler station wagon. Fake wood and all. Had a stroked 383 with dual carbs on it. Total sleeper, and made people feel like damn fools for racing him. Maybe you could do something similar with the Vega?

My first car was a '72 Vega GT wagon. I know back in the early 80's the small block swap was very popular, and they had kits available for the swap. I always wanted to put a 327 in mine. One thing to look at if you go forward with the swap is the rear suspension, specifically where the suspension mounts to the body. I tore my lower control arms off the floorpan several times running the local canyons with the stock 4 cylinder. Finally my friend that was reinforcing it and welding it back together said it was time to either tube frame the rear, or give up (he built/repaired pro stock chassis's for a living), so I moved on. lol
