Hi all and thanks for reading this post.
First of all let me introduce myself here. I'm Josep from Ibiza Island in Spain, and own a Mustang 1966 VIN# 6R07T213966.
The door data plate was missing during the paperwork in its export/import from the US, so I am missing some interesting data of my car. The question is, is there anyway to recover all the missing data on that door plate like the date (I already concluded that the car was assembled around June 10th), color code (actual is M, original?), trim, DSO and so on.
Any traffic office that can recover original (copies) documentation of the vehicle..?
Is it possible to get any sort of info about the car with the VIN number..?
Welcome to allfordmustangs! It is required you post pictures of your car...just kidding, but we do love pictures. So to answer your question, no, when the door tag is missing on a 65/66 all you can do is a lot of educated guessing. The traffic offices(DMV,MVA) usually have no records of these things going back before widespread use of the computer, to help locate prior owners, and with privacy laws they wont share anything they have unless you are law enforcement. Some agencies can run the vin number to see if the car was reported stolen, but even that can be sketchy. There are websites you can post your vin number on that the if a prior owner was searching for the car it would help them locate it, and you can just register your car with what you know about it as well. Onthis mustang forum, and there are others, Veronic is the go to person, and she has posted some very informative threads on these subjects-check those out for your reading pleasure!
Hi geicoman, good news here.! We have been able to locate the data tag on the door..! Can you believe it, the actual owner (I am going to buy it next week!) didn't know about the door tag, so he haven't seen it, crazy uh.? But, here it is.!!! Don't know how to post pictures, but data is as follows,
6R07T213966 65A F 22 11F 71 2 6
Hello, ill get most of the info for ya from The Mustang & Cougar Tag Book
6 = 1966
R = San Jose
07 = coupe
T = 6 cyl engine
213966 is the unit consecutive number (I think that's what its called.) They started at 100000, so its actually 113966
Tag info
65A is 2 door hardtop with std interior
F = ext. paint color which is Arcadian Blue (same as my '66!)
22 is interior paint color Blue with dark blue inserts (Again, same as mine)
11F is June 11 approx. finish date. F is the month using alphabet - I had to use my fingers to count that hi. :smile:
71 is DSO office which is Los Angeles.
2 is axle code of 2.83
6 is Trans & its a C4 automatic
I don't promise you 100% me being correct with all the above info tho. But it comes from a good book.
Well good news! You can buy the correct mounting rivets from any of the mustang parts vendors. I like NPD, but there are many others. Now where are our photos?:wink:
6T6Coupe many thanks for your help, it is exactly what the door data tag shows.!! Impressive.!
Now I have all the correct data for the vehicle, and know the origins of this car.!
Thanks very much.!
Geicoman58, also many thanks for your help, I definitely will go for these rivets and fix the tag to the door.!
