Question best exhaust size?

what is the best dual exhaust size for sound and performance on a stock (for now) 302?

Hiya, I see this is your first post. Welcome to the site.
For a stock 302, you could go as small as 2 1/4 but go with 2 1/2 for the best breathing and sound.

thank you, that's kinda what i had thought, but wasn't sure, bought a 65 last month. it has dual flowmasters on it and 2" pipes, that just didn't seem big enough to me so i thought i would ask.. thank you again!

welcome!i agree,2.5 inch pipe would be great.add a set of 3 inch tips for a deeper sound.

2 or 2 1/4 for best performance unless it makes alot of high end power

2.5"..no real loss, more availabilty of parts if you want to get funky with it later, and plenty of room to grow in HP.

Default I put 2.5" dual exhaust on my 289-4V

I put 2.5" H-pipe dual exhaust on my stock '65 GT coupe (289-4V A code) with turbo mufflers and it seems about right. Good throaty rumble up to about 50 MPH, then it quietens out. I stil have the stock exhaust manifolds on the engine.

2.25" should be fine, unless you intend to build for way over 300HP, then I would go w/2.5". I believe hi-po's came w/only 2" stock. More important is to use a H or X pipe for better low and mid range torque, mandrel bent tubing, and a quality low restriction muffler.
