Default Mustang II style front suspension for my 1966 Mustang?

Greeting to everyone. I visit here from time to time to view galleries and see what everyone is doing to their Mustangs.

Well, the time has come for me to begin work on my 1966 Mustang coupe. I've had the car since 1991 and it's been disassembled for about 6 years now. I plan on building it in a pro-touring theme for mainly weekend driving, an occasional show and short road trips here and there. I'm almost certain that it will never see the strip. The bodywork will begin soon. I have a 500hp 347 built for it already. The drive train is going to consist of a G-Force T5. The rearend will most likely be a built up 8.8. I know that it will probably need to be narrowed. I plan on tubbing it also, want to fit at least an 18x9 wheel in the back.

I've looked through 20 to 25 pages of tech on this site and I have yet to even see any discussion about the Mustang II front suspension. What is everyone's opinion on this set up? Is it worth the money? I was recently on Global West's site and the use of their parts to build a solid front end will cost me in the neighborhood of $3k, and that still doesn't include the cost to convert over to front disc brakes. The Delux kit from Heidt's is only $2k and comes standard with 2" drop spindles. It also includes 11" disc brakes.

I know price wise it's obvious which way I should go, but I want to build something solid and reliable. I've heard stories about how weak the stock subframe is on these cars.

Anyway, any advise will be highly appreciated.

I have a friend with one in a 68 with a mod motor it handled worse then it did stock. Also it puts more stress on the frame rails insted of the firewall like the car was designed. His i made some support bars going from the front of the frame rail to the firewall with a arch in them. Are you looking at one to save money.Id buy from Opentracker Racing Products - Products or go with a global west set up. Id run this over a mustang 2 kit Griggs Racing Products If you want cheap coilovers Fatman Fabrications

wow that griggs stuff is interesting, and MORE expensive than Global West. the open tracker stuff is promising. might look into that a little more.

so all you with serious street performers, what are your products of choice for the front? I will honestly say that I LIKE the Global stuff, it's just so expensive. I'm not trying to SAVE money but I AM trying to get the most bang for the buck. I knew I was going to spend some money from the beginning. I'm sure I'm not the only one on a budget.

I'm going the opentracker route, but making my own parts because I like to make stuff. It's looking promising as far as the handling and I should have well under 1500 in the entire setup (hell the most expensive parts were the sway bar and the $200 steering box rebuild)

Theres a few things you can cheaply to make the car handle better roller spring perchs are great the shelby drop where you lower the upper control arm.Cheapest is a monte carlo bar and export brace 2nd is subframe conecters. The design of the factory suspension aint bad can be better tho.Cheapest way for front disc is a granada swap or spindles off a 71-73 mustang there strong and have the biggest stock disc of the early mustangs. The rear good leaf springs and shocks a watts link is well worth the money.
