Default 1968 Mustang coupe... Swapping a 200 for 302 engine

heres my situation....
i currently own a 68 coupe that i love. other than the fact that it is a 200.
i have read all kinda of threads on the topic and just didnt want to blow it when it comes to my first engine swap.
in a thread i read it seems to tell me that any 65-72 bolt in, any 65-77 302 bolt in and any 77-01 302 5.0 engines would work as an easy sway for my current 200. i am aware that i will need to replace alot more than the engine but this is where i am starting

i just wanted to clarify this info.
for instance...would this engine work?
1987-1995 Ford Truck or Van 302 Long Block Engine
if not could someone give me an example so i can get out of the dark here?
thanks

ok i found some more stuff and feel a little silly
i need a small block not a long block.
also if anyone know this would be a huge help...i am looking at getting a 64 ranchero with a 1965 Mustang stock 289 with a 2 barrel carburator, C4 transmission
if i got this does anyone know if the breaks rear end etc... parts would be interchangeable....
if i am way off base here i apologize for my ignorance. i am just curious what all i could transfer over to my stang. id like to keep manual tranny on the stang and put the 200 on the auto in the ranchero....is that plausible?
thanks

Long block is a engine builder term you want a whole engine any small block or big block will work. the 200 should bolt right in that rancho with the right motor mounts. To do this right you need to change the rear end to a 8 inch and the front springs v8 hubs and brakes.

I just finished changing my 200 6cyl '68 coupe into a 302 car also. On the rear ends, just be sure you get one out of a 67-70 (59.25 inches), I initially put one out of a 65 into mine, they are 2 inches narrower, which messed up the backspacing clearance for the wheels.

As far as the engine, I found motor mounts made for converting 6cyl to small block if your interested. Any 260, 289, 302, or 5.0 will work with them.

If you have any questions, I may be able to help since I recently went through the same conversion.

Good luck.

Its not just the motor mounts the brackets they bolt on are different mounts the lake wood ones are like oem but stiffer.

I know this is an old thread but my circumstances are similar. I have a '68 coupe that, according to the VIN, was a 200. I bought it without a motor, transmission, etc. It has telltale signs of being raced in the past so I'm sure there was a larger engine in it before. I have an '87 302 from a F150 that I'd like to have rebuilt for it. I will also need a new wiring harness. If I buy a '68 painless harness, will I have problems with connections for that motor?
