Default 1968 Mustang Headlight Switch Wiring Harness Wire Removal

I have a broken wire in my wiring harness for my headlight switch in my dash and I just want to pull out the female connector that is embedded in the Harness so that I can put the remaining (or newly attached wire) back onto the female connector and into the wire harness

How do i get the connector out of the harness... there is a little notch on the front (female end) of the harness for each connector where i thought i could just still a safety pin or paper clip into and then "release" the connector... but that doesnt seem to work. Are these non removable? do i have to destroy the connector and just get a new one (no biggy they are 5 cents)..

this is driving me nuts.

Hello. They're not removable and that connector is an integral part of the underdash wiring harness. Your best bet would probably be to butt-splice the wire itself back together, if I'm understanding the problem. The wire itself is broken but the piece sticking out of the connector still has good contact? If yes, then patching the wire back together would be the way to go until you are ready to replace the entire underdash harness, which is something that you might want to consider if the wiring is so brittle that it's snapping off when you mess with it. Hope that helps.

I've used a jeweler's screwdriver to depress the small tab that holds the terminal in place. If the shank on the screwdriver is a little too thick to go all of the way into the connector, you can reduce its size with a small file and flattening the shank further back from the screwdriver's tip.
