Default 1965 Mustang 4 to 5 lug conversion.

I have a 1965 mustang coupe and the rear end locked up. I was planning a conversion but not this soon, are there any other cars with the same rear and front end parts or combination of cars.

I have priced a few rear ends and I can probably find 2 or 3 cars for what some people want for just a rear end assembly.

I would like to know just how easy some of the "swaps" are that can be done as I have read a little on the maverick and the granada swap, but wasn't sure about them.

Any help well appreciated.

Original car 1965 mustang coupe
6cyl clutch

As I purchased it
V-8 automatic 302 0r 351 ( haven't pulled motor for rebuild yet)

The Granda swap is still relatively cheap for the front ( my choice) . On the early cars, because they were so narrow, it's hard to find a suitable replacement. 57 to 59 Ford big cars are a direct bolt in. Make sure you get everything from lugnut to lugnut. I've heard about the maverick rears but I think they're slightly wider. Perhaps by an inch. Did your car have the six cylinder rear? I've got a maverick rear but youd have to add the spring perches back on. I got it with a 32 coupe I bought a long time ago. I your interested let me know. For what it's worth.

Someone suggested a late 90's explorer 8.8 rear end might work. I didn't pursue it, because I already have my 9" built. If you want to go to a 9", a 73' model will work, but you will have to cut it down, no big deal. If you get a used rear end, might as well get it rebuilt anyway.
