Hi, i am a complete beginner in drag racing. I have watched it for a long time now and fell in love with it but never really had the money to start my own project. Now i have just bought a 91 Lx 5.0. I am currently in Iraq and will be home in about 2 weeks for mid tour leave. I was thinkin about takin my new toy down to the track and maybe makin a pass or two to kinda get the feel for it. Is there any advice for me and should i even take it for a pass with my stang bein completly stock? I have an automatic btw. Any tips or help would be awesome. Thx.
YES! Whats wrong with stock? You take it for a few passes to get nerves outta the way and to at least see what it'll run. As for tips? Warm up the tires a little to get them sticky. A few secends will be fine. When you're at the line hold the brake down and give it gas at the same time. Not too much or you'll break the tires loose. Just a bit under the threshhold. When the lights turns green punch it and have fun! And don't forget to post your time here.

since its stock ... and it wont leave the line like a bat out of hell... i would smash the thing to the floor when u see the bottom yellow light come on the tree... it will help with you r/t time !

Always leave on the last yellow, don't wait for the green or your r/t will suck. After the small burnout don't go past the line, it will screw up the lights and cause a delay to back you up and reset the lights. Enjoy and thanks for your service to our country.

i hate to rain on your parade ......
i noticed in your sig you shaved door handles & pop locks...
if i recall you will not be able to race on a nhra sanction track
in case of a emergency the safety crew cannot open the doors
sorry it needed to be pointed out.....

Doors handles must be functional, inside & out. “Shaved” door handles not permitted unless there is an obvious mechanical means for our safety crew to open the driver and front passenger doors from the outside.
From the NHRA rule book.
