This coming weekend I am going to replace the upper and lower intakes, heads, cam, water pump etc.. on my 93 LX Mustang (SSP). The car has 155,000 on it. Thus far I have added 3.73's, headers, BBK Cold-Air kit, Aluminum driveshaft, MSD Dist. Cap, Auto plugs and FRP 9MM Plug wires. I am getting mixed feelings on how to proceed after every local Mustang enthusiast has given me their two cents. Honestly I'm scared to death, this car is my baby, I have waited my whole freaking adult life for this exact car, it's beautiful and I want to keep it that way, runs great no smoke etc. My question is this, with the addition of a Holley Sytem Max upper and lower, perfomer heads with roller rockers,a Trick Flow Stage I cam, and a BBK fuel pressure regulator do I have anything to worry about on the bottom end. I don't plan to run the car super hard (no drag racing), I just want a good sounding, solid running car, head turning car. One person said I should take the motor out and check the pistons, bearings and rings. My friend who is helping me knows mustangs in and out and has numerous years of experience with Mustang drag cars and Mustang street cars and he said there's no reason to do all of that. I am at a crossroads, what do I do, I have no reason to think I should do anything to the bottom end, but I'm new to this. Any and all opinions are welocomed. Thanks for the time and help!!
i wouldnt sweat it, especially since you arent doing anything crazy with it.worst case scenario, which wont happen to you, you can buy a short block from a machine shop for 500-600 bucks.go for it and have fun
From what you are describing I would leave the bottom end alone. If it's running good why bother. Besides it's never just check this or that. Before you know it your replacing all sorts of parts. Oil pump, Head gaskets, timing sets, main seals, engine gasket set, etc not to mention the cost of machine work, block cleaning, turning of the crankshaft, cam bearing install. The list will go on and on. It sounds like you have a solid plan in place with the upper end. I'd go with that. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the input. Hearing it from some fellow Mustang guys makes a huge difference, and like I said, if I were going to be taking it to the strip once or twice a month, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea and furthermore, what's the use in fixing something that's not broke.
