Guys, I've got an 02 V6 5 speed that ran a 15.09 at 91.5 mph on a 2.13 60 ft. time. This was in December in 40+ degree temps. Since then, I have gotten a dual exhaust but cannot run any better than 15.3's at 90 mph on 2.3 60 ft times. My usual launch technique is to hold her at 3 grand and let the clutch out moderatley fast while slowly increasing the throttle. Lately, this technique has resulted in either tire smoke or bogging down. When I do get a good launch, the 60 ft times are only showing 2.3's. I know I can run 14.9's with my trap speeds but my launch needs work. Whats wrong with my launch? What can I change to get that 14 second timeslip on the refridgerator door?

In my opinion...........you will just get frustrated without some parts. My first mods were suspension.
WHY?
Performance and comfort are inversely proportional. Stock suspensions are made for driver comfort. Lots of rubbery flexing bushings means that you dont feel the road and the drive is nice....the downfall for us performance minded folks is that it is sloppy and so there is no performance.....Horses are not transfered to the ground efficently........
SLAP SOME PARTS ON.....like RLCA and SPRINGS and DRAG RADIALS or SLICKS and SUBFRAMES just for starters and get those 60' times lower
READ YOUR TIMES......the more power your car is making the worse your 60' times are......you can have power for days but without grip it isnt worth a darn......but lots of SMOKE
Monkey Boy, the reason I suggested drag radials is because I believe its the best way to get a mustang to hook up without spending gobs of money on suspension mods. It also allows you to retain the factory smooth ride if you don't want to compromise between the two. And if you like to carve corners and get lowering springs your just gonna make it worse. Thats just my opinion.

I respect you guys opinions but I have run a 2.13 60 ft time before on the stock suspension with the stock tires. Pure Street racers have to launch on completely stock suspensions with 350+ hp cars and get pretty damn good 60 ft times in the process. I can't afford suspension parts till summer but want to drag race now. Can someone who is extremely experienced in drag racing critique my launch technique?

Lots of practice......Monkey where are you running? I have never run at the BR track. I have only run at the Gulfport, MS track. We need to hook up sometime!
They run there on Friday nights correct? Lets wait about a month and see if the cold air is hurting your ability to stick.....just as the other exreme ( a hot july in LA) would hurt your traction.
How were the other drivers doing on 60' times that were running similar setups that night? I have found that the best advice is given from someone who you watch run and you see they know what is going on and then you find and talk to them at the track and they most ofen love to talk about their car and give friendly advice.
See ya soon,

Lets get together for a crusie and a track night around the end of March. I am curious of my 60' times now....I always got 2.2 due to my slushbox.....consistant as hell though. I just installed full exhaust and 4.10's....with subframes this week. I want to get a baseline before I put in my shiftkit......to see how it affects my time.
Definitley, Emery. I'll take a look at their schedule and we can find a date and hope for good weather. And yeah, it's Friday nights. I've been told BR's drag strip has a horrible launch box and I'll have to agree. The weather proabably doesn't help my launch but I got my 2.13 on a frigid night. Must have been one of those freak instances I'll never be able to duplicate. Nobody else was complaining about there launches that night, that's another reason I believe the problem is me.

I've been planning on running to the Gulfport track. I already know a few that run there. I'm curious what mine will do in the 1/4. Whats the best times to go there?
Gulfport runs on Wednesday and Sunday the last time I went. I think they have a website so just search on yahoo.
Gates open on Wed at 6 pm with eliminations at 9. Try to get there at or before 6 for a chance to get 3 to 4 dial in runs before eliminations.....I dont go on sunday but I think it is at 10 with elim at 2 pm.
Its a small track but I have fun there......not too big not too small. They would let my son (at the time he was 5) stand behind the double gaurdrail (with my friend of course) as my pit crew in the 50 foot grass strip before the fence behind where everyone else was.....he had a blast being that close to the water box and watching his dad do burnouts and run the lights.
Take care....maybe we can meet there before it gets too hot......May???
If you're referring to NMRA Pure Street they have far from "stock" supension parts. Most if not all are running aftermarket control arms, anti sway bars, drag springs, coil overs up front, tubular K-members... Even the factory stock class uses aftermarket control arms and such.
On stock tires the only way to get the car to hook better is practice.

I'm hoping some Z-rated rubber on 17" GT rims and a rear swaybar will help me break the 14 second barrier. I have to wait until the summer to get all of this, though. Until then, I'm staying away from the track so I can milk whats left of the tire tread on my original tires.
