there isnt much happening in the drag racing section here.only a couple of people asking drag racing questions. does that mean the rest of you just talk about going to the track and then never do? wtf
I just posted a thread on this in the 2005 talk section about quarter miles times. What times are you all running. I think that is it. I go to the track just about every weekend.

i am running 11.60s. but i am running in an 1/8 points series(7.50s) i know a lot of people are driving a double duty street / strip car but i figured more people in the drag racing section would be real drag racers. i dont mean that as an insult to the people who drive their cars to the track and flog them. i am talking about people who have cars built for the strip only who go more than twice a year.what do you run in, grudge races or a specific class?
I love it and wish I had a drag car with trailer and whole 9 yards. I ran 14.124 last time I went out and I am at 5600 ft elevation. Yea my car is slow but I do not get tickets at the dragstrip. There are a lot of drag racers on here. Forensic Steve, JGUARD,Jet Black,Pfcracer, and many more.

My last mustang ran best of 7.27 ran an average of 7.35 with 5 speed and stock bottom end no spray just the right parts up top. In the process of building another already started putting cage in. and by the way my last mustang was my only means of transportation was driven everywhere i went.
I love it!! I try and go there as much as possible, with fuel running 4.00 a gallon, its hard. I run in the 13's, decent I guess....for what I got. I see many mustangs there, that is 80% of the cars running... if fuel ever comes down, I would be there everyweek!

hey guys. i wish i could be there every weekend but latelly ive been dealing with the constant bad weather here in iowa. otherwise i am there with my 81 mercuy capri. its a total drag car 8 point cage ladder bar suspention,an tubbed. i run a big block on the bottle and run 9.0 in the 1/4 mile. currantly im getting read for the pinks show in st louis on the 27th and 28th of june. im really looking forward to it. otherwize im allways looking for ways to go faster.
I agree with wild stang, 3 years ago I used to go every week wed and fridays. Now with gas bein so damn expensive, a simple drag racing trip will run me almost 60-70 dollars.

We try and go to our local track every weekend that we're not out of town racing, even if its just to test my sons jr dragster.
I think fuel prices has had a negative effect on everyones racing. We had planned on going to Michigan this past weekend for the ADRL race But, after looking at fuel cost around $2,000.00 to make the trip from Fl. We decided to not take a chance on the weather

There is a lot to say about drag racers whose vehicles are really doing double duty as in street/strip machines. It’s a lot easier to strip a car, put in a hot motor, and suspension that you trailer to the drag strip. You don’t have to be concerned about meeting emission standards or making the car drivable; therefore, you can slap in a 4000 stall converter and not be concerned if the car breaks.
The roots of drag racing was founded on whopped-up street machines, and a drag race is defined as an acceleration contest between two vehicles whether it be trailed or not. I pride myself on having a Mustang that is as fast or faster than the pro-stock vehicles from the early 70’s.
At 11.59, per NHRA rules, you don’t even need a roll bar and a cage isn’t needed until you break into the 9’s or 135 mph. My stang ran in he 11.80’s, 118 mph at 5800 ft. and another 100 hp, from the motor, has been added since then, not including the 400 hp NOS system. With slicks, I expect to run in the 9’s up here, run in the ultimate street class, once I have installed all of the necessary safety equipment.
Unfortunately, my budget isn’t such that I can run every weekend, which is the case for many other street/strip drag racers. So, for me, a real drag racer is anyone who designs a car to accelerate down the quarter mile regardless of how often he or she can make it to the track.

you guys re still missing the point. i am not dogging anyone who has a hopped up street car or even a stock one, especially another mustang.Lord knows i have been outrun by lots of guys who drove their cars to the track.but to say say a street legal car is more of a race car than one built just for that purpose is ignorant.regardless of how it all started.most, not all steet car guys use their car as an excuse. if they outrun you they say"you just got beat by a street car" and if they get beat they say "so what, you just outran a street car".my entire set up probably cost half as much as somebody who has a street legal car that runs the same e.t. or faster.and thats including the trailer.the whole reason i started this thread was to see how many people in this forum race regularly in some kind of points series or heads up type series(real drag racers).

This will be my last response on this subject, because I can’t see anything that is meaningful information, which is what I thought this site was all about. I will make a few points regarding your statements as shown above.
1.A street legal car can be built just for the purpose of drag racing. I’ve spoken with two NHRA tech inspectors, and as far as they are concerned my street legal car is classified as a race.
a.Point one – my car is required to have a roll cage, yours do not
b.Point two – I also am required to have a NHRA Drag racing license and physical, you don’t
c.At 10.00 to 10.99 NHRA requirements are driver protective clothing, after market axles, SFI spec’d harmonic balancer.
d.At 9.00 to 9.99 a beefier NHRA certified roll cage and window net is required. Plus if you run faster than 150 mph in the quarter mile, a parachute is required. A neck collar and fire proof clothing is required at this level.
2.What about the drag racers that run pro-stock, nitro funny and top fuel cars that have a limited budget and my only participate in two or three events per year?
My stang has all of the above except the roll cage, window netting, an external electric shut-off, and parachute which I will have to get and install before I can run at an NHRA sanctioned track. Ok, I also need to purchase the fire proof clothing as well.
My last question concerns the purpose of your thread. Are you looking to take a survey of how many drag racers are regularly competing in a series or do you have a drag racing related issue that you wish to discuss with the forum? Otherwise, which vehicle is more of a race car, yours or mine?

my point was not to take a survey or anything like that.i wanted to know how many strictly race cars were out there because 90% of the questions are about street car stuff.thats fine and all, there just isnt much useful info on here for me.i dont have much of a need for a cai or custom tune.good luck to all you fellow stangers, and hope to see you at the track
Oh my b I'm excluded than, I didn't understand the thread I thought you were speaking of guys who drag race in general. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
