first off Im unfamiliar with exactly what parts you'll want as far as internals go I know a lot of guys running 351s use a Holley 750 carb but you dont want to cheap out on parts because you will just end up breaking and spending more money in the end...

If you are looking to save some $$ go with a set of Iron Dart (I think they are the sportsman) heads with the 2.02/1.60 valves.

Get a flow numbers from the heads and pick a cam based on those. You won't need more cam than the heads will flow. A 750 double pumper would work great and a Edelbrock Performer RPM dual plane intake will be plenty good for the RPM range you will be dealing with. Make sure between the piston size, deck height and chamber volume you have about 10:1 compression. You may need to either deck the block, shave the heads or put in some domed pistons.

MSD distributor, coil and 6AL box will be more than enough as far as spark goes.

Your horsepower will all come from picking the right cam. If you can arm yourself with intake and exhaust flow numbers you should be able to call comp cams and have them help you pick one.

Top it all off with a 150 shot of NOS and you have a low 11 second car.

hatever you do, skimping on the heads would be a big mistake. I agree that the iron DART's will get you the most bang for the buck. In any motor air flow is crucial to building hp and torque. That being said, torque is more important then hp for a street/strip motor. Also, get a cam with the flatest torque curve as possible. The big mph number at the end of the 1/4 looks good on paper but becomes meaningless if your ET takes a hit of .2 to .3 sec. Free flowing exhaust is also a must have, and getting the power to the ground. I agree with Squidd's setup, even if it means getting a set of high flowing heads from a swat meet and having them rebuilt. Gears between 3.55 to 4.10's are a good combo with the right cam/tranny. Good luck!

if i was going to run the bottle i would go with a forged internal package. motor will last you longer. d&d motorsports has a nice 408 kit. the 185cc heads are about 400 bucks cheaper than the 205cc. the 408 kit is like around 1600 bucks for it. 450hp to the wheels equal about 5-510 to the crank. right cam and the 205cc heads you should be over 500hp

I got my nitrous kit put on my 351w and made a few passes this past weekend.

The engine set up right now:

stock rotating assembly 95 351w
64cc dart cast iron heads that have been ported and pollished
ford racing x303 cam
1.6 crane roller rockers
bbk shorty headers
3.73 rear end gears
26 inch tall mickey thompson drag radial
edelbrock rpm air gap intake
Stock suspension other than eibach dragsprings
c4 trans with 3200 stall
91 octane pump gas

natually asperated, the car ran a 12.871 @ 104.50 mph with a 1.802 60 foot.

on a 100 hp shot of nitrous it ran a 11.564 @ 116.18 mph with a 1.636 60 foot.

I am building another 351w right now and looking for ideas for better parts to hold more spray and make more power.

Does anyone know if a company makes a forged piston that would put my current 8.5:1 compression engine to about 10.5-11.00:1 compression? Im looking for a cheap slug, nothig too fancy.

Also trying to find out what cam would make the best power with a 175-250 hp shot of nitrous.

I just got a victor jr intake for it also.

If any one has comments of what brand of controll arms work the best, let me know. Im gonna need all the traction I can get.

My goal is to make a 10 second pass with this engine.
