To properly drag race an automatic, DO NOT do what most do which is to hold the brakes and rev the engine up as far as it'll go against the brakes without spinning. This locks up the converter and while it does help you take off harder, it isn't as hard as you possibly could launch.
You want to get on the line, ready to launch, and bring the revs up slightly. Approximately 1200-1300, and when you launch you then mash the gas at the same time releasing the brake. This is called "flashing the converter" and it manipulates the stall speed of the converter.
