Default removal of sway bar

i've seen people on this forum talking about removing the front sway bar and it helping out.....i've looked at it and it doesn't look that hard to get off, but my question is how hard is it going to be to get back on....is there any kind of adjustments that need made to get it in the right position again, any special tools? and how long will it take to remove/install it if i haven't done it before? is it possible/safe enough to drive home from the track with it off?

thanks

This seems to work well;

Put a new pair of endlinks on it.When you do ,make sure the NUT is on top,above the end of the sway bar.When you get to the track,spin the nuts off(with the car sitting on the ground),then unhook the bar ends,tilt the endlink ssemblies outwards and put the nut/washer/bushing back on.Then put a wire,short bungee cord or whatever on the ends of the bar and hook them into the handy extra holes in your shock towers.This holds the bar up and out of the way so the links don't bind if the bar hits them.This is easy to reverse and only takes a few minutes once you've done it a few times.It really does improve weight transfer on launch,especially with proper tires.

For the ultimate,try this.Make two plates to replace the goofy nut-in-a-plastic holder that '87 up cars have to hold the center bushings.Use 1/4" thick steel,mark the threads and drill&tap for 3/8" bolts.Put two bolts through the plate from the top down and tighten them.Then drop the plate through the mounting bracket so you now have two studs pointing down to the ground.This way it's easy to raise the bar into place with one hand and start/tighten the nut with the other.(Handy when you're working alone).With these and removeable end links it's simple to get the weight transfer advantage AND take 20 plus pounds off the front end.
