I have a 1979 Mustang with a 302.
Fresh motor/ 9.5 compression
GT40X heads/1.7 roller rockers
Edelbrock performer intake/holley 600
performer cam
1 5/8 long tube headers, flow masters/2.5"
Summit racing billet distributor and cdi/supercoil/8mm accel wires
elec. fan and fuel pump
B&M kit in c-4
3.73 with trac loc
245/45-18 yokohamas
What kind of horsepower and times can I expect to get with this setup in the 1/4?
1988 coupe race car 2700lbs 366rwhp
1965 2+2 fast back 4 speed tri power
1968 gt/cs 347 5 speed
1970 mach 1 428scj 4 speed v code 410 rwhp stock
1990 gt drag car 780hp on motor
1994 gt, 1998 svt cobra
2003 svt cobra 456rwhp
weight....the sticker on the door says gvw 3871
That seems heavy..I dropped the cast intake, cast exhaust, cat, cast heads and a big box of smog stuff, ac and extra radiator....I am guessing I lost about 200/250 pounds so far. Thank god for aluminum!
The cam is 204/214 duration and 448/472 lift, but I am running 1.7 rockers so it is more like 478/502 lift.
Ford racing said it should be at just over 300 hp.
I was going by "seat of the pants feel" and it seems to run stronger than a 71 duster/340 13.7 that I had. It had 3.23 gears and street tires, crossed the line in 3rd gear.
I was hoping for a low 13....
Would a longer duration cam and larger carb get it closer to high 12's or is that unrealistic? I am looking into a set of slicks for x-mas if mrs. clause is looking the other way.
I am old school and never bottle fed a motor....I see a wet system for about $400 that says 100/125 more hp.....
is that more realistic? How many passes can you get on a #10 bottle and is it expensive?
slicks and nos....12's...11's?
thanks
make it rev 4:10 or 4:30 in the rear drag radials
what is in the bottom of the motor? forged? if so put a power adder on it. Then it will move

I paid around $500 for my kit (NOS)
Opened the box and the 1st thing other than the sweet blue bottle was the switch....Junk, so there was another $20....the wiring kit included was fine for some, but I HATE hack work so I needed to toss it aside as well....
I think your getting where Im going here...
Time you get the other parts (gauge, bottle heater, larger fuel pump for larger shots, etc) I was into it aprox $1000
But it was worth it.
As far as the number of passes. I dont have the book in front of me, but if I remember correctly, at 100hp, its 60 seconds per bottle. @ aprox $4 a pound. So your talking under $.70 a second

Just one reason why I'll stay NA. At $.70/second and running the spray 10 seconds/pass, I usually make 15 passes at a test and tune day so it would cost me over $100 just in nitrous!
Plus entry fees, fuel, the inevitable parts breakage, I couldn't possibly afford to race with all that expense.

We're not the fastest car at the track but we might be having the most fun.
If you're not having fun, then you're taking this stuff too seriously!
I never made it to the track and just had to do a couple more mods. before hand, besides it doesn't open till March. That was the best excuse I could think of..lol . I tossed the performer intake and 600 holley. I went with a parker funnel web intake and a 750dbl. pumper holley, also added a comp cam extreme energy cam. 230/236 duration 550/553 lift when you figure in the 1.7 roller rockers. Then a 2500-2800 stall converter. I recurved the distributor to compensate and hope this perks it up a wee bit more. Anyone have an estimate of the HP now? 350hp and maybe into the 12's? Can't wait to see how it all works.
awe...the smell of tire smoke.....
thanks...

ok these numbers are base a 3250 guesstimate race weight & 350 rwhp
Your ET / MPH computed from your vehicle weight of 3250 pounds and HP of 350 is 12.24 seconds and MPH of 109.43 MPH.

12's...I could live with a 12.5 street car. I considered more converter but I was concerned about streetability. It would be easier if I was just going for a drag car. Then it would be slicks, lower gears more cam, different heads, more compression, bigger rearend, less weight..........and so on and so forth.....then a truck and trailer....I think I will be happy with the 12's.
Thanks
