friend wants to race my 90 mustang gt with 3.73 gears rest stock
vs his
1996 mustang all stock but the cold air intake

want to know if i'mma win (new to mustangs) but i'm pretty sure the foxbodies are faster right?

I would say drivers race but the 5.0's are know more for torque and you have gears, i would say you have the win.

Even with a 5.0 and gears you could easily loss the race if you can't launch the car properly and have a good reaction time. I've out ran cars with a 50 hp advantage. If you spank him at the start the race is over.

Like the one guy said, the driver has a lot to do with it. I beat cars that should have been faster than me because I knew how to launch my car and hit the gears. Of course, if you're driving a stick car, one missed gear is a lost race.

The Fox Body is faster, in theory, but as always, the driver plays a role. My '98 GT with stock 2.73s ran 14.55@96.9 almost bone stock. A well-maintained 5spd Fox should be at least 2-5 tenths faster than that.

If your buddy is shifting at redline, like most 96-98 drivers do, you'll beat him even worse. (Mine never got out of the low 15's shifting at redline.)
