Default Installing Motor Plates

Wondering how much work is involved in installing a motor plate. I'm confused about how the water pump is mounted using the plate. When installing the plate is it at that time you can decided to lower the engine in the engine compartment? When installing the plate, do you have to go with a solid transmission mount as well or will the plate be good enough?

I would love to hear thoughts on this. Thanks in advance!

Happy New Year!!!!

the install is not that bad....

yes you can lower & move it back...

trans mount is your choice .....

the last one i did water pump was mounted directly to the front of the plate.....

I took a couple of photos this morning. I have to throw in a curve here. I forgot to mention about my low mount alternater! Attached is photos of the compartment. I think I will have a problem with that.

I also attached a photo of how I have the motor braced now. I want to get away from the stud motor mounts. If I go with a rear brace I think I will have problems there too because I have an adapter plate to mount the 400 trans.

Use a rubber type transmission mount , will help take out some of the vibration you feel in the shifter

Thanks, but really not concerned about the vibration when shifting (I have a urathane mount now) I have an automatic trans.

I'm looking for absolute stiffness. I have heard that if a vehical has too much torque it could actually pull the motor away from the traditional mounts. I don't want that to happen.

If you run all solid mounts you risk cracking the transmission case. I have seen it happen to a few racers. Your better off running a urethane trans mount over a solid mount.

I have a urethane mount now. The trans cross bar is custom made utilizing the center one bolt. I have the one custom brace up front and I'm guessing this is going to be about it using an alternator or unless I use a mid engine plate that is a trans adapter as well.
