Default What RPM do you launch (V6 -5speed)

Hey guys
Im sure many of you know about my previous car accident, and since then i have bought a new mustang.
My old one was an auto and the new one is stick. I thought myself how to drive it when i got it because it was my first. and no, i didnt tear up the tranny, i probably only stalled it a handful of times when i was just learning!

long story short, my buddy has a 1990 foxbody, basically stock and will not stop talking crapp about my 4.0. When he answers the phone he even says "hey V6, whatsup?" and im about ready to knock him out, and take his rusty mustang and his arrogrant attuitude with him.

I know its a v6, trust me, hold the insults cuz ive already heard them all. but so far i have a AEM CAI, Dual Magnaflow catbacks, SCT X3(91 torque from bama) and i have motive 4:10's and a FRPP T-lok in the garage getting installed later this week.

all i want to do is prove him wrong, so in about 2 weeks we are going to the track and racing for 40 bucks

with 4:10's and (hopfully) drag radials, what is a good launch RPM for a 2006 without spinning too much?

well the first thing i say for going to the track to settle this grudge......

to be perfectly honest the is no right or wrong launch rpm.....

it is a very delicate balancing between bogging the motor and blowing the tire off (excessive spinning ) my recommendation is to just try different rpm's until you find the perfect launch point

good luck and let us know the outcome......

I'm with Reggie on this one, glad you're taking it to the track! With drag radials and 4.10's you should be able to launch decent. Hopefully you can get a couple practice runs in before the grudge match so you'll know about where to launch.

We'll be waiting to hear the outcome.

Take all the weight out of your car and ditch the 17's for some lightweight rims and drag radials. If you do get DR's, disconnect your front sway bar before you go to the track. It will help lift the front end and transfer weight to the rear for better 60ft times. If he has DR's or slicks, it's going to be difficult.

You should be in the 14's with the tune and lightening up.......

I don't know if there is a difference between the V6 or the V8 for launches but I try to launch at about 2500 to 3000 rpm and that seemed to work. Hold it at that RPM and let the clutch out part way until just before it starts to grab. Then wait for your light and go...

Your gonna have to try a few times to find the right RPM buy start low and work your way up. And don't just side step the clutch let it out easily like you were driving in the rain and keep it on that edge of Traction/Spin to get the best 60' ( but stay on the traction side) What size DR's are you going to run and what brand?

This match up should be good because if he has similar or less mods it will be close because those S197 V6's have as much power as the Foxes had back in the day.

Good Luck.
