I hadn't raced in around 15 years, so this was almost a new experience for me. The car I used to race was a very old school 429 Torino and it's best effort was a 13.16 @ 105mph back in the early 90's. That's with some fairly heavy duty parts (for back then) including stuff like a big solid cam, big D.P. Holley, big intake, big converter, 4.56 gears, etc.
Much to my wonderful surprise tonight, the bone stock 2009 Mustang GT, with a scant 1200 miles showing on the odometer, ran a bunch of tire smoking 101mph runs with a best effort e.t. of 14.08. That's simply amazing for an old dude like me, & fast for a stock GT IMHO. I'm certain that with some drag radials that thing would run 13.60's or thereabouts. Amazing. Oh, and it felt great beating every single one of the imports tonight. That was a plus.
The air was a chilly 55* or so. Not cold, but not hot either.
Now that the stock "as delivered" runs are a done deal, it's time to install the Steeda CAI, underdrive pulley, and custom flash tune that's all sitting in my living room.
Once you get more seat time in the Mustang, you will be able to do mid to high 13s. With intake/tune, drag radials and practice, don't be surprised if you hit low 13s high 12s.
That's awesome man! Where did you go to? I'm guessing... Firebird?
No, I was out at Speedworld northwest of the Phoenix area. It's a lot closer to my house than Firebird is. There weren't very many cars there tonight so I could run almost as fast as I could get back to the staging lanes. Loved it, but what I DIDN'T love was bumping against the factory rev limiter. I did that a few times tonight and it shuts the frigging motor off for a second or so. Not cool. The mph goes right in the crapper when that happens.
wow sounds like you had fun tonight congrats on the e.t very impressive for someone who hasn't raced in fifteen years. glad to have ya back in the racing world

That's one of the great things about a tune => being able to increase the rev limiter's stock setting.
I'm another local Arizona Mustang guy. Sweet looking car there.
I had some friends out there racing that night too. They were in their sport red Cobalts. They bested 13.11@110+mph did you get a chance to see them run?
Good times on a stock GT too, I know there's more in it too Arizona is just not the best place for bragging rights on drag racing times.
