I think your confussing cars. The SSO car makes 4 passes per set of tires (max). We actually have two sets of Bogarts for the rear with new tires on both every trip to the track.

My car makes 14 or so passes before I have to change tires. I normally make 3 to 4 passes every trip to the track. So no, I don't buy new slicks everytime I go to the track with my 07 GT. If we take the 04 Cobra SSO car out we have 2 sets every trip.

Does that kind of clear things up a little??

However, its the tires that make 10.5 racing so interesting to me.

Make as much power as you can.........but just get it to the ground on a 10.5" patch of rubber! And with 1600+ rwhp that's about an 8" wide tire on the big end!

Don't get me wrong, we resell the tires of the SSO car. You could use them for plenty of runs. But their not safe for the SSO driver or car after 3 or 4 passes, just whips the sidewalls.

I usually sell my tires of my GT to the lighter Fox guys. They still have plenty of life for them. Just not safe for my car anymore.

3-4 passes? i'm an old bracket racer, uaually 2-3 time trials and 3-4 rounds just to get in the money. sometimes as many as 8-9 passes at one race.

We usually start the race as I said with 2 sets of tires already mounted. A lot of NMRA races will have maybe 5 cars in the SSO class. Sometimes we'll need to get another set at the track if necessary. However, in most cases 2 or 3 qualifying rounds (you may not run them all if you don't need to just to save the car) and another 2 or 3 depending on the ladder.

I completely understand, there's a lot of cost associated with heads up racing that people just don't think about some times.

On the SSO car i"m sure you carry a spare engine and enough parts to build a new one....

Heads up racing is not for the faint of wallet....
