I have an 06 GT and I have recently come across some 14 inch rims that might fit my car if they do what would be the best on the track? They would not be my street tires.

You will need 15" wheels. Best slicks are some M/T's but your best off with a Drag Radial, they don't sway on the top end of the track like a full slick will.

thanks for pointing out the 15" part i forgot to mention it....
there has never been a truer statement made......
i have been running slick for years an still haven't use to the big end sway
at 130+ mph the "pucker factor" increases considerably with the sway
in fact i will most likely going on a DR this year myself.....

I run a 28 X 10.5 X 15S MT slick. I have had great luck with them on my heavy S197!

just curious how many runs do you get on a set of tires
About 10 to 14. Just depends on the track (What kind of burnout is required).
I consider that pretty decent. On our Super Street Outlaw car we get 4 runs out of a set of tires and the sidewalls are whipped after that!

Well our SSO car runs a 7.30 on a 28" tall tire with a 94mm turbo (NMRA rules) making over 1600 rwhp with a race weight of 3200 lbs.
My issue of course is weight more then power. I imagine if my car didn't weigh in at 4050 lbs with driver I could get a little more use out of my tires!

If its a street ride, I'd recommend M/T ET STREETS. DOT approved, and BOY do they bite. Heat 'em up, and they'll snap an axel. I scrambled a 7.5 posi unit with an 88hp 2.3l last season running them.

I sure do miss it.
I'm like a duck, calm and cool on the surface, Paddling like HELL underneath.

so plstang, every time you go to the track you buy new slicks? i know 900 h.p. and 4000 lbs would be tough, but maybe try a different brand....
when putting that much Hp to the ground it eats tires especialy with a s197(heavy car...) it is not uncommon for the guy running 9's or faster to go though 3 or 4 set during an event.....
in particularly the guys who run 10.5 tires
Going fast ain't cheap...
