I went to the track all weekend. They had a Test and Tune weekend for all the heavy hitters in town. Don't get me wrong I don't think I'm one of them. I just fit the type of car they were letting run.
Well this had to be the worst prepped track i have seen in a long time! If you weren't running high 9's or 10's you weren't getting down the track!
Here's a perfect example! I blew the tires off and got my shift light as soon as I let go of the transbrake! I guess it could be worse......the guy right after me blew his tires then his motor......
This was my only notable pass all weekend! A horrible 1.45 60' but an awesome 5.80 in the 1/8th at 120mph ( I was out of it before the 1/8th based on the video and MPH). That's easily a 8 second hit if the track was there!

Not one street tired car went down the track! Nothing but slicks! This was the test and tune for the ADRL event next weekend!
They had Todd Moyer, Kenjo Kelly, Richard Lelsz, Joe Pitchford, Team Titan etc. Going down the track!
Were talking A dragsters, ProMods, Pro outlaw, Outlaw, Super Street, ProComp, Comp Eliminators etc...
This was nothing but HEAVY HITTERS!
I managed to get in because my car fits a class and I run slicks.

Wow at that point it becomes a safety issue I would think, when you're making that type of power and running those times anything can happen down the track. It's a shame the racers come out and do their part but the track officials lagged, happens quite a bit at my local track over here and my car ain't hardcore at all.

I was talking to Kenjo last night. We ran into each other at a resteraunt. He thought the track was junk! Full of bald spots! I think the only reaons Kenjo could even launch was he was running a lot less boost and ramped it in down the track.
Can't do that with a PD blower. I leave with 20lbs of boost. It's go or blow!
I sure hope they get the track fixed for the ADRL event or it's gonna get ugly!!
Not to mention that the NHRA comes to the track next month for the Spring Nationals.....

Yeah things can get ugly real quick, but for the NHRA event I can all but guarantee they'll have that thing prepped impeccably for those guys, that's alot of money rolling into town for them.

Track has been open for a month and it better be right for next weekend. That's the ADRL event and the week after it's the NHRA spring Nationals!

Sorry to hear about the lousy prep. We have that problem at Beech Bend too, but ours is mostly because the track gets beat up by street tires, or you go for T&T on a Tuesday night which is expected.......

Well it will be right for the NHRA......they prep the track themselves. They bring in their own equipment and compound.
I had forgotten about that.....

I'll agree with that. Saw one car flip at the 1000' mark. It was ugly out there!

How do street tires ruin track prep???
I hate sounding like I know nothing, but drag racing is kinda a new thing to me. My thing has always been Go-Kart racing and NASCAR... So all this drag racing technical stuff is new to me.
I love the track I go to. It's not a big, fancy "Nationals" track, but the track workers do their job well. My tires are STILL sticky from the track on Sunday.

When people go through the water box with them....and they do. They may do a burnout but the water stays in the tread and gets drug down the track. Makes a mess for us boys with slicks!
Those big burnouts you see guys do with street tires. They release a lot of the oils that are in the rubber of street tires, which they proceed to lay down on the track.
Finaly the tread pulls up some of the rubber down the track and can make for bald spots.
Those are all the reasons I've been told. I'm sure there are others and those may just be "old racer" theories. All I know for sure is that I'd rather make a hit behind 10 slick cars then 10 street tire cars. The reality is that street tire cars just seem to tear up the track.
And thats why (at most well run venues) you'll never see them run true street and then run Pro-Outlaw right after it. They'll run some slower classes with slicks to get the track right before they send the big dogs down it.
