Yep, I'm learning. I've noticed at least SOME kind of improvement every time I go. Whether it be a new fast time or more consistant times. But shoot, this is my 4th or 5th time at the track so I'm no veteran.
Geez Reg, I wish I lived in Florida to borrow a set of tires for a couple of runs. But the gesture is still good to hear.

Thanks for the encouragement Samo! I'll keep it going, I'm going to be visiting the track still, but until I get some tires for the track I'll just be spectating and asking questions to the guys that are regulars.

I understand your situation with one income and having a daughter...a word of advice...if you cant "afford" a good set of street tires...you might wanna consider not racing...things break when you race and its gonna cost ALOT more than a set of rear street tires!

Consistency is running the same time again and again and again.....like a 15.12....15.16....15.14....etc....

I',m sure once you get the wrinkles ironed out you'll do much better....tires is just the BEST way to get your car to run consistent times....just trying to help you out
Well, every time I've been to the track besides the time on this thread, my times were all over the place. Being a full second or TWO apart. And this last time I was within 3 or 4 tenths of each other all day... THAT my friend is consistancy for me!

"Why 12 degrees?" Why not?
I knew my timing was too retarted so I adjusted it. I already know I didn't do it the RIGHT way, but I did it my way. And it'll do for now.

I'm not broke, but fixing up my car is a hobby, not a necessity. Buying things for my wife and daughter and seeing them happy is what makes me happy. So buying goodies for my car comes from my extra hard work and extra money. Most people with a spouse and kid knows where I'm coming from on this.

I know what all I need to do to make my car fast, but time, money, and PATIENCE will get me there. Oh yeah, and with a lot of help from my buddies here at AFM!
Telling me not to race is like telling a fat kid not to eat the cake in front of him. It just won't happen. If I break something I can fix it and even if I'm the slowest guy at the track I'll still have a blast every time! BUT, until I get a good set of tires I'll keep taking my daughter to the track and we'll watch & learn and have a good time!

I understand everything you've said...maybe you are taking things wrong when i am commenting on your thread...

i have a family too...i know that my family comes first...they always have and always will...i have been use to spending alot of $$$ whenever i wanted on my cars but since my marriage and birth of my son, thing have changed dramatically...

about your timing...i have had best luck at 14 degrees initial...that is why i asked and all i was doing was trying to offer some pointers BUT based on your comment..."but I did it my way. And it'll do for now" doesnt seem like help is wanted so i'll leave it at that...

you commented on how you dont have money for expensive tires...that is why i commented on why it may not be a good idea to race and break something when you made it clear that you have a family...again breaking things gets very expensive at times when it comes to racing...family first remember?

I guess i should explain a little about myself...i am one of those guys that likes to help BUT tell you the truth everytime...i know that you havent been racing for a long time...i know that you are going to the track and doing your best and trying to improve......BUT i'm not gonna tell you that running 3-4 tenths apart when racing is consistent...its not....it is a major improvement from your last time out but it is not consistent...i;m not gonna tell you to add bags of weight to your near stock car...that is just wrong...your idea was good but not correct for a near stock car...i know you dont wanna be the slowest guy at the track...obviously not cause you are trying to get faster...to be faster you need to learn from others and yourself...gotta be open minded...i have been racing for about 10 years...all manual trannys too...you are right...it takes time and patience but how much better i would be if i wouldve had people trying to help me when i started out My car doesnt have much...yet look at what it ran...its about knowing what to do with what you have...i'm on a budget right now....every little trick helps and it has for me to run a 13.1 consistently...

i hope you understand what i am getting at...if i comment on one of your threads its not because i am trying to get under your skin...i'm actually trying to help you...

again...your best bet to consistency and improved 1/4 mile times are better tires...

No worries bud, I wasn't scooting you out of my thread or anything. Just simply replying to your other post... *Roost, PM sent*

I did 12* because I didn't want to run into any pinging/predet. And I don't see any need to run higher octane right now. Not that it's out of the question though.
What I meant when I said "I did it my way" is that we ran out of time that night, so I did what I could with the time I had. I guess that did sound a little smart a$$ish though. My bad.

When I get the chance I'm going to set my timing correctly but for now it will do. It's running pretty good now so i'm not worried.

I decided before I went to the track this last time that I would put the racing on hold until #1- I rebuild my engine and #2 I get tires for the track. But just deciding to NOT RACE because something might break is out of the question.
You're taking MY "consistancy" a little too serious here. If I was a veteran like you or Reggie, then these times MIGHT upset me, but still being new to this game I'm pleased enough for now with my times.

pm read

i only stated to "not race" because of the budget issue

i just rather have a working car then a broken car...thats all

get those tires on there and you will see a big difference in your times....when the tires are on and you hook pretty good, then you'll see the benefits of the bolt ons and the difference they make...

let us know how you do
