Living in the Chicago area puts dampers on Drag Racing. Wondering what is considered safe to start taking cars to the track? After temps. reaches averages of....?

That's why I love living in the south! Our track opened on the first weekend in Feb. It was about 40*, give or take a few, and we were still racing.
It all depends on the people running the track and when they decide it's safe.

....when the track is open..... We'll race anytime..... Our track opens this weekend. The '02 motor rebuild isn't ready yet, but I can still have fun in the '01.......

living in florida does have it advantages.....

pretty much year around racing....

this is the best time of the year....

summers are brutal trying to make horsepower & getting traction on a slippery track....

I would wait a few weeks after the track opens to go racing. Once they 1st open the tracks are too green for faster cars. Last year at Byron there was water coming up to the track surface for the 1st 2 weekends.

I heard that, kind of why i'm questioning. With the weather changing the itch is there!!

I'll be there the first day the track is open, scheduled for the last weekend of the month. You just have to see what the track conditions are and drive accordingly. Unless of course you have an ultra high HP car which could be a handful on a cold, green track.
