I took my 05 GT to the track tonight. I need advice.
Ok after doing my suspension mods I finally got to go to Orlando World Dragway out in Bithlo tonight.
Well I felt fast but damn the track was slippery and I don't think I prepped the tires enough. I was running my Sumitomo HTR Z 2. Ok first run, I get up there and drop the clutch from like 2700 rpm and spin a bit. I really didn't power shift as I did lit off the gas a bit during shifts, but I was testing many things out so here are the results.
My MPH would have been higher in the 1st run but I wanted to see if I could make it all the way without using 4th gear and ended up hitting the limiter with like a second to go. So in my 2nd run I had to shift into 4th. I felt faster in the 2nd run but it was a bit lower of time with a higher trap speed. I still didn't power shift and instead slipped the clutch from like 4000rpm. I felt I had less wheelspin but it's hard to tell. Here are the results.
I mean if I'm trapping 105, I think I should be able to hit 13 flat. My 60' needs major work I think, plus Orlando sucks as a track for the most part. I might just need to invest in some really sticky rubber. Any opinions? Ideas on how best to improve the 60'?

I agree with STLWAGON. The MT ET STREETS really helped my traction issues. It takes some getting use to them and re-learning your launches, due to fact that you hook really good.

since you say the track sucks.. Id say that says it all. you did real good for what you had to race on. I got some low 2.0 60ft on my 275 Sumitomos...but Im a auto and its a pretty decent track. I still say a auto will 60ft better on a street tire than a manuel. I will say try lower rpm at take off. 2500 sliding the clutch. di you try lower air pressure at all? they say not to lower the air in a radial...I agree somewhat....say the tire needs 35psi...drop it to 32psi...I bet it helps pump the fronts up to 55psi.

Yeah Orlando is known for their poor maintenance of the track and rather slippery conditions. I didn't do anything with the air pressure. I just wanted to see where the car was as a base. i figure when i go back i can tweak.

Bad Track conditions make it so hard to see what the car can really do. I still think tires are a mod that most neglect. Very smart starting as a base and then adding your wisdom. These cars also run better if you let them cool between runs.

You definately need tires. I had a 2007 4.0 Stang and my 1/8 mile was less than a second from your time. It should be alot more than that. I practiced launching off of the line at redlights around town alot to get better. My reaction time helps me out alot, considering I drive a V6. Good luck with everything.
Your reaction time doesn't factor into your E.T. on test n tune.
OP
The reason why your MPH were higher on your second run even though you were slower by almost a tenth is you spun. You most likely spun on your shift to second as your 60' was better on your second run but your 330 was worse. I'm just guessing based on your numbers. It's easy to blow the tires on the shift to second and you might not have noticed it.
As everyone has said, tires and practice my friend!
I think someone mentioned MT/ET Drag Radials?!?!

What about gearing? I was talking to a friend and he was telling me that shifting into 4th is hurting too. He said maybe I should invest there too.
Went you shift into 4th, do you know what rpms you are pushing? If you shift into 4th and then hit the trap at low rpms, could be hurting you since your not in the best part of your power band. If you shift into 4th and trap around 5-6Krpms, then your fine.
the MT's will help alot and a night/day difference from stock tires. the best i could get on the stockers was a 2.0
