Default Took my 05 GT to the strip for the second time this week. Here are the results.

Went to Orlando Speed World tonight, and as usual it felt slick. I was hooking better, but not much. I launched around 1800-2000rpm for my best run because anything 2500 or over was wheelspin city. Best run of the night:

60': 2.073
330: 5.801
1/8: 8.810
MPH: 82.44
1000: 11.353
1/4: 13.508
MPH: 102.81

I felt my shifting was a bit sloppy in this run though. I need to power shift just 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. I tried power shifting the whole run one other time and ended up spinning like crazy shifting into 2nd, ran a 14.0 on that run.

Tires really are the key. MT Streets are the next mod I'm thinking. Then some 3.90 gears and then the aluminum driveshaft and loop.

Thoughts, opinions?

M/T's for sure....

i'd just go with 4.10's

i know how you S197 guys are but having lowering springs is not helping your traction problem....

Hooking up at the dragstrip and radial tires have NOTHING in common, haha! Tires are Essential at the track, with slicks or soft drag radials your 60 Ft times will be in the low 1.8's and you need to speed shift 2nd gear to get that pony pumping!! That's still a very respectable 1/4 time and trap speed, just get out of the whole with some momentum and you'll be in the low 13's!
FYI when I switched to an aluminum driveshaft I only gained .05 and No speed increase in the quarter mile, it does smooth out the ride but if your looking for a big kick in the pants it's not gonna be there!

I'm surprised they let you run your car, without a driveshaft loop that's a safety issue right there. But yeah street tires, will get you no where 2.07 60 ft. time should tell you that. And before I would put a set of tires on, I would definetly get a drive shaft loop first. If you ever blew out a yoke, or a u joint you would find out fast what it's like to pole vault at 80+ mph. I'll tell you this much, I really don't think you would enjoy it. Drive shaft loop first, then your tires second. Mike, SCT Tuner.

I agree with 100% with installing a drive shaft loop....

But for the price of the aluminun drive for the S197 is there a better way to spend you money....

JMO the minimal gain really isn't worth it at this time.....

Do the drive shaft and loop first. You'll see quite a bit of difference. The stock DS is 45+ pounds compared to an aftermarket DS of 17 pounds.

Either that or do a loop and the DR's.

2.00 60' is good for stock tires on an S197. That should be your goal until you get better tires.

The springs are gonna make it tough on you. However, you can get to as low as a 1.6 with them, maybe a little better. If you have to have them look into some adjustable rear shocks. Not tokico's either. Maybe a Strange or QA-1 single adjustable. Once you've done that cut atleast an inch of the pinion snuber on either side of the axle (might want to do that now).

Also make sure you have a good pinion angle. A lot of lowered S197 owners do not correct their pinion angle after lowering. I see you have an adjustable Upper so perhaps you have. However, I would still sugget a set of BMR relocation brackets. They will change the angle of the LCA's and help with the instant center. These cars are front heavy you'll need that angle to get the instant center of the vehicle where you want it!

Hope that helps!
