Default 450Hp Do You Think That Will Twist My 1979 Mustang

I am dropping in 450hp approx 347 stroker in a 79 stang. The car is body. I will probably run 26x10 drag radials. I want to try it once with the street tires just so I have a comparison. They are 245/45 yokahomas, thats 26x 9.5 when you measure them. I also put a posi and 3.73's in the 7.5" rearend. It is just a weekend toy. I am not going to spend much time at the track. I would like to find out what it runs though. I figure 12 or maybe a high 11 second car at best. So whats up?

You could benifit from some subframe conectors. When you put on sticky tires that will cause torque to move through the car more. That's a good gear but your size (7.5) is kind of on the small side for abuse. Don't shock it too much

Get some kind of traction bars also to help with wheel hop.

In answer to your question......

Can you say Pretzel ????

it takes a lot less horsepower than you estimate (450) to twist a fox body car....

you will further increase that action with the use of slicks....

to prevent that you will need subframe connector & a roll cage

not knowing the weight of the car but based on the estimate horsepower with a combination of good traction it most likely will be a track requirement....

Also i would start saving money for a new rear because in all likelihood the 7.5 rear will not be able to withstand the power and the driveline shock of racing....

good luck with the car and keep us posted on your progress.....

Default Pretzels are bad....

know the 7.5 is a bit small. I was never planning on building a beast. It was just going to be a little freshen up and a 4 barrel carb...LOL $5000 later..... I figure that I am running an automatic so the shock factor should be much lower than dumping the clutch on the last yellow. I will see what happens and am already looking at an 8.8" disc brake off a newer mustang. Any suggestions on an easy swap? I did a set of gears and posi in my truck with an 8.8 and mud dragged 37" Iroks without trouble. Will bolt in sub frame connectors be adequate or do they need to be the weld in ones? 11.5 and quicker need a roll bar at my track. I was hoping to run an upper 11 to avoid the extra weight. Wheel hop? What style of bars work with the rear coil setup? I know wheel hop eats rearends. Roll cage......probably should......dang this free car is getting to be a pit.....I love it...

if you are using the car as primarily a weekend cruiser/drag car

the is no real benefit to rear disk brake in fact historically they are a deterrent because of the slight drag of the pads

in according nhra rules a roll cage is required 11.50 or faster that is for safety

But the even bigger advantage is that it will tighten up the suspension which will result in better traction....

so in answer to your question find a rear from any v8 fox body and it will bolt right in....

also with regard to subframes yes you can bolt them in....

There is always a "BUT" the mounting hold will elongate rendering them useless...

so my advice weld them in a be done with it.....

Subframe connectors are welded in and made a world of difference. I also did the 90/10 drag struts and lowered the front end 1.5". It was setting a bit high in the front due to removing so much weight. I threw some paint on it and am now thinking of a stronger transmission. The it is shifting a bit slow into D after a few passes......TCI tranny at $900 ......
It's only $$$$$$$.

Your gonna have to change your name now. No more orange car.

Good deal on the sub connectors.
