With the torque of a 460+ cid, 3800-4000 stall I can only get up to about 2500 on the brake before it is ready to start pushing.I mentioned this to someone and was suggested, Instead of going through the converter with the footbrake, try smoothing the engine out to about 1800 rpm, and then nailing the throttle........... it wil flash the converter harder and faster saying ultimately the car will transfer better and 60' better.
Does this seem a good logic?
I want my take offs like PLStang!!

It may be worth a try. However, you just can't beat a transbrake!

No transbrake. I thought it might be worth a shot. We are trailering to a friends unincorporated area tomorrow for some tuning. I know will be completely different at the track.

I was thinking about this more and would make sense that when using the footbrake you are torquing the car up then hammering down. Leaving at idle is only one motion, less of a travel down on launch.

I have tried both ways and each car is different. That is why there is not a real answer. You have to experiment, I did this yesterday in my driveway. I find that holding as high as I can ,works best for me.I know others who have had there best time from idle. You have to experiment and do what works. You`ll get it.Keep a log if necessary.
