Default ready for the track on friday!

ok guys remember guys I was having problems with my traction because my mickey thompsons were bogging my car off the line. so i put on my street tires and installed lower control arms so i think that should do the trick. im goin to the track on friday so im pretty excited, how do you guys think i will do?

You just need to heat them Mickeys and launch at the highest rpms that you can hold at.Then put it to the wood as PL would say.

I'm guessing your car is an automatic? It sounds like you are not leaving with enough power. As Reg said try increasing the tire pressure a bit on the MT's. Footbrake the car to the highest RPM you can hold and drop the GO Pedal to the wood as your coming off the brake, as Bkid said!

Coming up on the tire pressure will help you get some wheel speed. A lot of people think if your tires spin it's a bad thing. However, you want a little, not a lot, but a little. You want that wheel speed up so the car doesn't nose over on you(what it's probably doing in your case). The car was probably dead hooking and this instant load on the motor was dragging it down and causing the car to nose over, the car then has to get moving again and that's killing the 60's. More tire pressure will cause the car to hook less and allow the wheel to spin a little.

Watch my wheels in the video attached. Nobody will debate that my car leaves hard, but you'll notice that my tires do spin.

this is good wheel speed.

this is blowing the tires off.
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...EventTNTCC.jpg

this is dead hooking (note how you hear the tires rip and the motor drag and die)

Video didn't want to load right so I included a link.

Major diference!

Hope that helps a little!

I know nothing about racing but want to learn. I noticed in PL's video that the green light was on for about a second before actual launch. Is that right or did I miss something. Some day I may actually make it to the track to watch in person.

no you didn't miss anything .....

that run was a test and tune .....

he was waiting for the car to be right......

rather than trying to beat an opponent

it was all about the ET nothing more....

trust me that man can knock the tree down....

this is very short version of why i know when eric See's this he will explain in more detail....

Reg has it right. Thanks Reggie!

If you listen closely as I came out of the burnout you'll here a squeal. I didn't get the car into neutral quite fast enough. What happens is the tires grab and drag the motor down real quick. However, the blower is still spinning. The instant drag on a blower with a really tight belt can sometimes loosen the blower drive inside the snout.

You'll then hear me stab the motor a couple times (rev it), I was checking the boost. When I got it staged I brought the car up on the transbrake real slow. I was trying to make sure the drive was tight. Basically if it's loose when the car starts spinning up the blower during the run it will tighten up somewhere along the run. However, if you bring it up slow it will tighten quicker.

Since it was a single and I had no body in the other lane I just took my time. Made sure the boost gauge said 20lbs and went.

Hope that kind of makes sense. I was just making sure the car was right before I left. Honestly I don't get in a big hurry on test and tune. That's all about finding out about the car. If there had been a car in the other lane I would have left on the light or let him go and then run a single.

And bring yourself out to the track this weekend! We'll be out Sunday!

ok, I understand now. When does the actual time start? When the light turns green on when the car moves. What track and what time?

You could sit at the tree all day long and the time would not start untill you cross that line. Every track all day or night long. Reaction time is the time from when the light hits green and you cross the line. Great reation times can win races, unless your racing Reggie or PL. Then forget about it, just race for your best ET. Which is mainly what I do. I really try to get a better ET every time I run. That is a challenge.

Thanks for the explination. One more stupid question. If racer A leaves the line when the light goes green and runs a 15.0 and racer b leaves the line 2 sec after the light turns green but runs a 13.0 who wins?

We're going to the HRP Baytown, opens at 2, we should be there when it opens!

If both cars cross the traps at exactly the same instant then the reaction time would be the deciding factor. In which case the driver in car A would win.

However, to show how unlikiley that scenario is it would have to be more like this.

Driver "A" cuts a perfect light .000 reaction time and runs exactly 13.000.
Driver "B" is 2.000 off the tree and runs exactly 11.000.

That's an awful lot of 0's.
