Default Do I need to go to DRAA?

I was reading the post where it was mentioned that some members need to attend drag racers AA because they are addicts. I wonder if I fit in this category.

Some of the warning signs seem to be there. Take last weekend for example. I put an all new rear suspension in my car over the winter and due to 4 rain outs haven't had any chance to tune it in. So last Friday was the first points race of the season in BSD's Friday Night Street Fights series and I want to run that class this year. We went to the track but I was not happy with the car's performance so I went back on Saturday for the test and tune.

Nothing too unusual about that I guess, but I have to trailer the car two hours each way to the track. We didn't get home till after midnight on Friday, then I got up at 6:00 AM to head back down Saturday morning.

What makes it kind of worse is that I already intend to do the same thing this weekend as I really need to get the suspension properly setup. And my wife is so used to my "problem" that she doesn't even question decisions like that.

Anyhow, after reading how you all are doing at the track this year I thought I'd tell my story from Friday night.

As I mentioned I have no practice with my new suspension so the times were all over the place as I was trying to find the sweet spot to launch at. I got to run three time trials. The first two 60's were both 1.9's which was not good as I'd run 1.7 on my stock suspension last year. I was getting some bad wheel hop as I think the pinion angle was off. Finally after some adjusting the last 60 was a 1.75, still nowhere near what it should be.

So then eliminations started and I didn't have any idea what to dial as my et's were 12.413, 12.669, and 12.261. With the et's all over the place I figured I'd just dial a 12.19 and run as hard as I could and let the chips fall where they may.

First round of eliminations and don't I pull a 1.682 60', and the car is running really strong. I knew I was going to break out so I let off the gas before the stripe. Turns out I ran a 12.17 and broke out anyway. I should have just stayed in it and I probably would have had a new best time to take some of the sting out of losing.

Thinking back on it I didn't factor in the much cooler air we had for eliminations as it was after sunset. I will be sure to take that into account this week.

Well with out consulting with the other members of the AFM DRAA group I feel safe to say you indeed have a problem.

But the first step is admitting it!

What you need to do is go get an RV. That way you can take the car to the track on Friday and just spend the night. You'll save 4 hours on driving and get more rest!

Besides your missing a lot of fun stuff that happens after the track closes!

You have the following events to look forward to:

Bowling for 55 gallon trash drums with your tow vehicle (my personnal favorite)!

Golf cart races on the track!

And you haven't lived until you've stuck your tow vehicle in the sand pit and had to walk back to your RV at 3 in the morning!!

After thinking about......maybe you shouldn't take advice from me on these matters!

You know I get the feeling that some of those events might have some sort of relationship to "post race beverages".

Myself, I'd stay over at the track in a pop up tent but my wife is more hung up on the creature comforts. You know, girly stuff like showers and real bathrooms instead of porta-potties.

My name is Tom. I'm an addict......

I ran in the NMRA's last Fall. I live about an hour from Beech Bend, and went down on Friday to do some T&T and tech inspection with the intentions of going home every night. I didn't leave until Sunday..... I called my Daughter(17) and had her sleep at a friends house because I didn't want to leave. Besides, it was free pizza and beer on Friday night sponsored by Nitto. I mean, how can you turn your back on that? Right? We had all the fun races, golf cart drags, etc. I ended up sleeping in the back of a friends Explorer all weekend......
