Default New best 1/4 time............

Went to the strip two weeks ago ( Norwalk Raceway ) and posted a new best in the 1/4.

Here's a run down of 1/4 times from stock to current:

Mod ---------------------- 60 ft --- 1/4 time -- 1/4 mph

Stock ( 07 ) --------------- 2.21 --- 14.02 ----- 100.6

C&L CAI, Bama tune ( 08 ) - 2.29 ----13.82 ------104.9

+GT500 tires/rims --------- 2.26 ---- 13.72 ----- 104.9
( 2 weeks ago )

Man............if I can get that 60 ft time to 2.20 I know I'd see a low 13.6 time.

I may try again at Dragway 42 tomorrow - practice makes perfect.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Forgot to mention a few things...........

Temp was mid 70's, and I'm running 3.31 gears.

Still trying to perfect the launch without hopping or spinning. I've actually started to do a small burnout ( Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires are expensive! ) before the run instead of driving around the water -- don't know if it helps much.

Also............beat a 67 Camaro, a late 90's Camaro, and a Shelby GT500 ( he had a poor launch ).

A good day at the track.

Kudos on the et improvements and the kills.
Going thru the water is normally not recommended with stock tires. The water can get into the treads, and drip onto the track at the starting line, which can cause excessive spinning. Going around the water, and just a short burn to clean off the tires may work better. Keep practicing, and you'll get your 60' down.
(FWIW: launching at 2500-3500 rpm, slipping the clutch, and a short tire spin may help to reduce the 60')

Wow! Those are solid times for the mods you have listed. Keep whittling down that 60 foot and you'll be smiling forever!

Let us know how the next runs go.

Congratulations on improving your times. What Reggie said is the best advice . Lower control arms and Uca will do wonders. Sticky tires are a must.

Update!................

Went to Dragway 42 tonight, and recorded a new best time.

The best part was that I got my 60' time down to 2.15 ( finally broke past 2.2 ). Finished with a 13.69 @ 103.85. The mph decreased by a full 1 mph, but finally got into the 13.6's.

Ski -- I'm finally launching better at around 3000 rpm.......or should I say "slipping the clutch" better. Also, avoided the water and did a quick dry burnout.

RLG & BKid -- I had installed some Steeda LCA's last year, and only got one run with them ( no wheel hop, but spun like crazy! ) -- they clunked so badly that I couldn't take it and re-installed the stock units.

I may someday get some slicks for the original 17"ers in the garage, and maybe a 3.73 gear, but for now I'm gonna try to keep improving with the current set-up.

Best part of the night -- no wheel hop! I think the GT500 tires help a little, but slipping the clutch properly probably helped more.........

Thanks for the advice guys, and I'll keep the updates coming.

way to go on the new time....

quick question what bushing did you have in the control arms.....

the clunking doesn't sound normal.....

I would try a different bushing because those will most certainly help lower your 60'.....

I agree the lower control arms help a lot. I have the Che perfomance LCA`S they work and have maitence free bushings. These babys work. Congrats on the improvement. Sometimes seat time is a huge factor.

The clunking wasn't actually from the Steeda lca's -- they just magnified all the regular slop in the driveline whether it was on clutch engagement or shifting. It just was bothersome.......I may re-install them some day.
