Default 89 DSS 331 at the 1/8th track

I took my 89 to the 1/8th mile last night for the first time. I had a blast! If I could only figure how to launch the freaking thing I know I would be in the mid to high 7's. Even if I burn out and warm up the tires I still have no traction in first, and I'm running the stock gears.

I'll go back after I put a new clutch in. On the run in the video I had a halfway descent launch but the clutch slipped while shifting into second. Oh well.

The video is of my second run and the time slip shows my fasted run of the night.

I want gears soooo bad.. 3.73's would fit nice with my set up but I just can't afford the $400 in labor charges to get them installed.

I have a spec stage 1 in there right now. It only has 3500 miles on it and it slips into second.

I called Excessive Motorsports in Manassas, Va and was telling them how I want to drop the car off to be tuned. I told them my set up and they said the 24s were too small and that I needed a 255 puel pump instead of the stock one. So I ordered all the parts and just install everything but the pump tonight. I noticed the car a lot slower, wondered if it was because I kept the fuel pressure the same. With the 24s I was running around 38.

I I bump the FP up about 10 lbs with larger injectors? There goes my gas mileage...hahaha.

I really don't see the need for the fuel pump(255) or the injectors

yes the stock one(FP) wouldn't have been enough.....

but now you have enough if you decide to spray or supercharge it.....

I was just curious .....

Seems we're discussing two different issues here. So I'll stick with the original. Listening to the video and if it was your car, I heard a lot of tire squealing. Main problem, tire/rim selection. Been racing since the earlier 70's. Even a chirp from the tires affects et. The aspect ratio for a 40/17 has too stiff of a side wall to allow the tire to flex; meaning 40% of the tire relates to height, 60% to width. Excellent tire for road racing. 17" rim means even less sidewall.

Believe me, I know the problem with budget. So this is my suggestion. Lower the tire pressure in small increments, and don't take it two low that you could possible damage the tire. Second, loosen or remove the bolts holding the front sway bar AT THE TRACK. This will allow the front-end to rise and transfer more weight to the rear. I don't recommend driving the car home with a non-functional sway bar, because this could be dangerous if you needed to swerve to avoid some idiot talking on their cell phone.

Interesting idea with lowering the tire pressure. I didn't think that would work with street tires, the side walls are too stiff. But I will definitely give that a shot the next time I go, thanks.
