Make sure you burn out in second and really let them warm up. I suggest you try 15-17 PSI
Yep, the rule is burn out in second gear, get the tires up to 50 mph.
If you have a automatic, just hit 50 mph.
If automatic with manual valve body 1st to 2nd get it up to 50 mph.
If your running an automatic with manual valve body and turbo or nitrous where it's hard to get the tires rolling, come off the transbrake and bump second (or high gear on powerglide) hit 50mph.
Remember the 50mph is a general rule, you need to do your burnout based on what the track requires. The tires need to be heated according to track temp, prep, surface condition, etc.

Way too much pressure. If I were you, Id start at maybe 17? And go down 1 pound every pass and when your 60's start to get slower, bump it one pound.
And with radials/slicks, I'd dump the clutch at around 5000 rpm? If not more. My car has bogged before when i dumped at 5700
It all depends on how the car acts really.
But pick a launch RPM and stick with it, then change tire pressure to accomodate for tire spin.

I'm running the stock gears right now. I don't remember exactly the ratio but it's pretty high... something like 2.8x or so...
I don't know if I'll be able to do a 2nd gear burnout. I'll try it but that's a lot of footwork with a manual and I don't have a line lock yet. I'll give it a try though...
I appreciate all the help. Hopefully if the weather is good I'll be going out this Friday a little earlier to get some more runs on these tires. I'll drop the pressure to about 25 and go down from there. I'm just worried about revving really high at the light and then running out of first gear too quick. Like I said, I'm just going to have to get used to racing all over again. At least I know I bought some good tires though!

You're car more than likely has 2.73's, it would be easier to stay doing a first gear burnout cuz it's a PITA to do a second burnout with stock gears and motor on sticky tires. If I were you just set em at 25 and learn how to launch from there, if you keep adjusting them and don't have the launch down you're just going to be adding more and more variables into the mix. The car will act differently launching at 3500 rpm's at 25 psi than it would at 3500 rpm's at 20 psi, so you see how things can get out of hand with the constant adjusting. Let us know how it all works out.

You should find an empty parking lot to practice in...or any other safe area for practice cause if you stay in first two things are most likely going to happen: 1. your car will begin to turn sideways when you are burning out in only first and 2. like the other members mentioned...you won't be getting those tires moving fast enough for a proper burnout.
Trust me...you will see a BIG difference between the stickiness of a 1st gear burnout and a 2nd gear burnout. Also, make sure you're out of the water box (drive about 4-9 feet out of it)...I have seen PLENTY of people attempt to burnout inside of the water box....Not very useful.
Good luck to ya----keep us posted on any new times you manage!
.I have seen PLENTY of people attempt to burnout inside of the water box....Not very useful.
Man, i just got done typing a long rant on that......my finger's are tired. I'll just copy it!
here you go:
Having said that let me also add DO NOT DO YOUR BURNOUT IN THE WATER BOX!!! this applies to guys with slicks also. If you sling the water into the wheel well with slicks it could drop on the tire during the run. With street tires your going to drag water all over the starting line!
Makes me cringe every time I see that!
If you're running slicks and you need to be "in" the water to start the tires turning, pull to the outside edge of the water box. Out of the box itself but where the track is still damp, you'll be able to get them moving there without so much chance of slinging water into the wheel well.

Well fella's I get to give this another shot tonight.
Test & Tune starts right after I get off work, so I'll go slap these stickey tires on and head to the track.
HOPEFULLY, I'll have some better luck. I'll put the tires down to 25 PSI and see what I can come up with.
Wish me luck!
