I finally get to see what it's like to have some traction! So right after work, I have to drive home, get my old battery, drive to A-Zone, get a NEW battery, drive to Lexington, switch tires, then RACE! Busy day...
Hopefully I'll be posting tonight or tomorrow with a new fast time!
My current fastest time is a 14.7, but that is with a 2.3ish 60' and launching at 2K RPM's because anything above that it'd be like driving on ice. I will have to do a little bit of adjusting and getting used to launching different but I think I'll get it tonight! I'm too excited.
Oh yeah, I also got a new Hurst T-handle shift knob and a Mach 1 chin spoiler. Those two are probably worth like half a second off the quarter mile....

Man, racing on those tires is completely different than what I'm used to.
I pretty much have to get used to racing all over again...
I'll have to get the timeslips at lunch and post them.
My first run I was using 40PSI in the tires. I revved to about 2500 (that's 500RPM higher than when I was using my street tires) and it bogged down REALLY bad, and I ran a 15.9ish.
2nd run- 35PSI and revved to 3000 and still bogged the engine, but not as bad. Ran a 15.5ish.
3rd run- 35PSI and revved the hell out of it to 4000 and got some tire spin out of it. Ran a 15.5.
Next time I go I'll rev to about 3500 and see what I get from that.
I didn't get the times I was hoping for, but I didn't realize how much of a difference these sticky tires would make. I still had a blast since I didn't feel guilty about wasting my street tires.

Heat them up good, the reaction time is going to be off. That is due to hooking up. What size tire are you running? The thing is when you get traction , and are able to apply it to the strip;your times will drop. If you are running a 275/45/17 Tires you may want to drop air pressure to say 18-22psi. You mentioned bogging wich makes me think you may not have enough power, for that tire.

This is almost as good as talking to the wife.....
TOLD YOU SO........
Once you re-learn launching the car the times will come down....
just a thought i think you are running way too much air in the tires.....
Yes you did tell me, and I'm damn glad I listened to you!!
My dad was saying the same thing about the tire pressure being too high, that's why I dropped it to 35 PSI. I only had enough time for the 3 runs, so I haven't had the time to play with them more.
What else do you suggest I try?

I am running 275/50/15, and at a wild guess I'm probably running around 225 HP to the wheels... MAYBE.... I think the engine can handle them just fine, I'm just used to racing with my street tires and only revving to about 2K RPM at the light. I just wasn't revving high enough with these sticky tires.
Plus these tires will work great when I get some lower gears.

Just for referrence I run 18psi in my M/T ET street radials on my Shelby when I race it.
If you think she was hooking at 35......watch out!
I run 10-1/2 to 11-1/2 on the slicks.

Yeah, but your shelby is running almost 3 x's as much HP than me...
I used to run my street tires at 25 lbs. Should I drop my pressure down that low in these?
I'm still new to the drag racing scene so I'm not sure where to go with these tires... Am I running to much pressure, not revving high enough, or a mixture of the two?
(I forgot my timeslips at home but I'll post my times ASAP...)

It will be a new learning experience for you Feen.
I run my Mickeys at 11psi and still blow them off if I launch too high. (5k) You will be experimenting with them the next couple trips to the track to learn where the sweet spot is.
